Within 10 miles of Aysgarth Falls and surrounded by idyllic countryside, this light and airy barn is perfect for a group keen to experience the natural wonders and communities that define this pocket of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Just outside the delightful village of Burtersett, the two-storey barn, which was once a hayloft, offers a fantastic base for activity-led visitors who like exploring a new area on two feet and two wheels. With a modern feel throughout, the barn enjoys spacious living areas, with underfloor heating downstairs and a Juliet balcony showcasing comfort and style for humans and hounds alike.

In the ground-floor lounge/diner, the group can cosy up on an L-shaped sofa in front of an afternoon film, while the Victorian oak table, a few paw prints away, is an ideal setting for a hearty evening meal. The kitchen is a great place to gather or keep the cook company, especially around the breakfast bar. The ground floor is also home to an en-suite twin room with an interesting quirk: it has no external windows. An oak and glass staircase leads to the first floor’s two bedrooms: an en-suite king-size bedroom with a Juliet balcony and a spacious en-suite family room ideal for parents with children, or friends who are happy to lodge together. The outside undercover illuminated seating area is a fantastic place to gather and admire the countryside in the day, or the stars at night.

The village of Hawes (1 mile) offers a warm Yorkshire welcome to happy hounds, while the stunning waterfalls at Hardraw Force (3 miles), Askrigg (5 miles) and Aysgarth Falls (9 miles) are the birthplaces of a thousand selfies. The limestone cluster at The Buttertubs (6 miles) is a sight to behold, as are the views from the footpaths and trails that can be picked up almost immediately from the cottage.

Despite the generally good reviews for this property, our over riding experience was that it was cold. During the week in Sept we were there, the weather turned quite cool but the heating in the cottage was not available. Maybe over the summer/warmer days when no heating is needed and in winter months when the heating is pre-set to on it's OK butRead more our experience was of being cold. The website describes the cottage as light & airy with a cosy feel - unless the sun was shining we found the rooms dark. Whether you find it cosy is a matter of opinion. Hide

Lovely property all round. Burtersett is quiet (just what we wanted) but still close to Hawes - just a short walk across the fields. The property has been renovated with great care, and the beds were especially comfortable.

Absolutely perfect stay. The host went above and beyond when I made a mistake and she helped to sort it for me. Perfect location of the property. Brilliant amount of space for us (6 adults, a child, a baby and a dog) and excellent value for money. Highly recommended and we hope to return again.
