Lead the way to adventure with this charming rural cottage in Northumberland National Park. Surrounded by gorgeous countryside, this would make the ideal retreat for a group of outdoorsy friends and their dog, or a small family and their four-legged family member. Either way, you’ll set tails wagging in the beautiful garden and create cosy memories in the snug living area.
The outside of the cottage shows off its old stones, which keep the property cool in the summer and warm in the winter. These features, which were part of the original build, are visible inside, where they contrast with rustic tones and wood furniture. You’ll find two bedrooms, one double and a twin room, as well as a combined living space which has a lounge, dining area and kitchen all in one. After days out adventuring, curling up in front of the wood burner is a must. Wildlife enthusiasts (including Fido) will love the garden, which is full of birds and little beasties and is enclosed with a picket fence.
The local must-visit spot for waggy-tailed walkers is Simonside, which has incredible views and wild grouse to sniff out. For amenities such as dog-friendly cafes and pubs, head 2.5 miles to Rothbury and, if you can, try to visit on a market day to sample the local produce. Anyone who finds history and spooky stories compelling is sure to enjoy a trip to The Drake Stone, 10 miles from the cottage, and you should stop off at Lady’s Well on the way. The grassland and rolling hills are beautiful but if you want some coastal air, head to Amble. Here you can “amble” along the dog-friendly Low Hauxley Beach (23 miles away) to see the petrified prehistoric forest and grab a bite in the town.
