Pack a bag for you, your other half and your four-pawed third wheel (the dog!) and head to the charming North Norfolk town of Holt. This one-bed flintstone cottage is quaint and characterful from the outside, but houses thoughtful contemporary interiors. You’re guaranteed a comfortable stay – with room to be together or take a moment alone, your canine friend by your feet. And, with Holt just on the edge of the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, its quaint villages, nature reserves, wildlife and coastline are yours to discover. Walkies certainly pose no problem!
Keep dog towels to hand as you enter the stylish, open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, although it has practical wooden flooring, so that’s one thing less to worry about. This space works well, with sofa seating in front of the cosy wood burner in its attractive, exposed brick chimney. Off to one side is the well-equipped kitchen area, and a pretty table for two, which all feels really modern. Up the statement staircase, the deluxe king-size bedroom is fresh and inviting, with elegant furnishings, the beautiful red of the brick chimney breast and light decor. Outside, the private courtyard is fully enclosed and offers a bistro table set.
Lead the way to retail therapy in Holt town centre with its Georgian architecture. It’s a perennial favourite so there’s plenty to see and do, plus lots of dog-friendly places to eat if you fancy a night off cooking. Alternately, head to Cromer (10 miles) for fish and chips or pick up a Cromer crab meal to either eat there on the beach or bring home for supper. Or collar a ticket from Holt to seaside Sheringham on one of the Poppy Line heritage railway’s steam or diesel trains. Your top dog can get a ‘Rover’ ticket too!
