This peaceful cottage on the Glamorgan Heritage Coast is close to the beach and coastal path, and has an attached field where children and canine companions can run off excess energy. With a wood burner for cosy evenings in, it’s an ideal base for a family holiday in South Wales.
The bright kitchen/diner is the heart of this house, a convenient space in which to prepare holiday meals while the rest of the group helps, plays games around the table or discusses the day’s adventures. Sip your morning coffee in the conservatory which runs the length of the house, while after supper you have a choice of two places in which to relax – the spacious lounge with a wood burner or the snug with its selection of books and board games, and a sofa bed for additional guests. The three bedrooms are all on the first floor: a double with an en-suite shower room, and a king-size and a twin which share the sleek family bathroom. From the conservatory, you can step into the enclosed garden, which has a large patio where you can BBQ and an adjoining paddock for pups to zoom around, play fetch or have a good old sniff about.
The unspoilt West Glamorgan coastline offers many stunning beaches overlooked by dramatic clifftops, perfect for walking, surfing and sandcastles. The gorgeous Dunraven Bay, a popular sandy beach with rockpools to explore, is less than 1 mile and it’s also worth a wander over to Dunraven’s beautiful walled gardens and castle ruins. In high summer, take your mutts along the coast to Ogmore by Sea Beach, 2 miles, which is dog-friendly all year round, or explore Ogmore Castle inland (also 2 miles) and try your balance on the ancient stepping stones across the river.
