Grand and glamorous, this three-story home sits on the edge of the sleepy village of Alwinton in the heart of Northumberland National Park. Sleeping 11 people over six bedrooms and welcoming three canine companions, it’s ideal for a large family gathering or a getaway with friends. You’ll adore the breathtaking country views, and your pups will love snoozing in front of the wood burner each evening.
Step inside and you’ll find a property that has been thoughtfully updated in order to retain its period features. Store your dog-walking gear in the boot room before heading to the main lounge. Make yourself at home by the wood burner, before getting busy in the stylish, rustic-style kitchen. Cook up a storm for your loved ones and host a dinner party at the large dining table. Alternatively, make your way to the detached orangery, where you’ll find a second dining table. This glazed garden room has underfloor heating and an additional stove to keep it cosy. After dinner, pop open a bottle of something fruity and do a little star-gazing through the orangery’s telescope. Alternatively, curl up with a good book in the sitting room while your pups stretch out in front of the wood burner. At the end of a perfect day, you’ll find four lovely bedrooms on the first floor and two on the second floor.
Energetic pups will love the walk up Simonside Hill (13 miles), where they are welcome to run off-lead. Afterwards, head into Rothbury (10 miles from the cottage) to reward yourself with some pub-grub in one of its dog-friendly bars. Alternatively, go for walkies at the historic Cragside Estate (11 miles). Dogs are welcome in the outdoor spaces, including the Rock Garden, Formal Garden, Pinetum and woodland.
