Throw balls for your contented canine in the field at this former barn on the fringes of Matlock. Sleeping four guests, the two-bedroom Derbyshire retreat is a paws-down winner for a small family or two couples on holiday with a hound. Offering generous accommodation, as well as ample, external space, the inviting abode is well positioned for forays into the Peak District National Park and for heading off on scenic walks with your faithful friend at your heel.

Wander inside to discover a beautifully designed, open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner for your pal to pad about and you to relax in. Prepare homecooked meals and feed your furry pal over the kitchen area then dine inside on chilly days and out in the sunshine when it is warm. Gather in the lounge area during the autumn and winter to watch good films while your dog dozes on the rug or sit outside together as the sun goes down on summer evenings. One of your bedrooms, a twin with beds that can also be made up as one super-king, and with an en-suite shower room and TV, is also downstairs. A king-size bedroom, also with TV, is up on the first floor of the barn, together with a family bathroom. Play games with your delighted dog out in the field in the morning then relax out here over breakfast on the patio on summer days. There is parking for three cars at the property.

Visit the beautiful Lumsdale Waterfall, just over 1 mile away, where there is a dog-friendly footpath to follow. Have a day out to Chatsworth House, 8.5 miles away, where your chum can accompany you through the beautiful gardens. Stanton Moor, 8.5 miles away, where you can see the Nine Ladies stone circle, is another great place for stretching furry legs.

Well appointed and thoughtfully equipped. Both toilet seats loose and electric shower hard to maintain constant heat control

Lovely comfy well located cottage, really the only negative I have to say is there there is almost nowhere to store food, maybe some of the extra mixing/serving bowls could be located in the utility area as they are not an everyday use, and maybe too many cups and plates, at least 12 mugs and cups and 12 different wine glasses, its only a 4 bed accRead moreommodation, or maybe thats just us, but once the fridge was full no space for any of the dry food. We had a small issues and it was sorted promptly by the owner. Hide

We had a really nice stay in the Barn. It was a perfect location for walks and sightseeing in the Peaks. The accommodation was very clean and warm and the beds were very comfortable. Would definitely stay again.

Field barn is a cosy and extremely quietly situated cottage high above the small town of Matlock. Perfect for 2 to 4, expect a well equipped kitchen, two bathrooms, two bedrooms, and a sitting room that is comfortable and snug. No traffic noise, you can sleep with an open window. In the summer, you have plenty of space outside, and all year round yRead moreou can start on short walks straight from the cottage. Going into town on foot is a bit of an expedition (very steep to come back up from the town), so if youre looking for fitness, this can be easily obtained. Overall, we were very happy with the cottage, the equipment and furnishings and the hosts service. We did find the bed in the top bedroom a bit on the hard side, with the springs noticeable, despite a soft topper, but of course this is subjective. Hide

Field Barn is a lovely property, very comfortable and well equipped. Warm and welcoming with amazing panoramic views. The only downside for us was it was a drive into Matlock Town Centre and the walk back up would have easily taken an hour. If you don't mind driving it is an ideal place to stay, apart from that cannot fault Field Barn.

We had a lovely holiday in a warm, cosy cottage. The only reason for the 4 under equipment was that two bed side lights weren't working and we struggled with the heating system as the instructions in the book did not match what was actually there. None of this prevented us from having a good break and the owners were very helpful.

Nicely equipped barn. Cosy & comfortable. It felt like you were in the country but you weren't. Very close to the shops & places to visit.

Everything was perfect regarding the property. Equipment, cleanliness and layout all ideal for what I wanted. Mrs Brown came out to explain certain things when we arrived and was a very lovely host.. The Shetland pony and sheep were an added bonus for my friend who didnt want to leave them

The cottage is spacious, well equipped and tastefully restored. Even though it was cold and frosty the cottage was always warm. It is on the edge of playing fields which was ideal for our dog and there were walks from the cottage. It was on the edge of Matlock and involved quite a walk to the centre, which could present problems for someone with moRead morebility issues, but it is centrally located for the Peak District as a whole. At the moment there are road works in the centre of Matlock and the directions given don't work! I don't know how long the roadworks will take, but it might be worth modifying the directions for the time being. We enjoyed ourselves and would love to return when we could enjoy the garden. Hide

No central heating for first 3 days. No drying facilities. Shower door in en suite needed adjustment. Light bulb out in lounge. Alarm kept going off for no reason. Insufficient kitchen storage. However a very comfortable cottage in a superb location, with lovely walks on doorstep
