Stroll around the grounds of a Derbyshire country mansion with your waggy-tailed friend when you book a stay at this impressive, stone retreat. Sleeping four guests, the handsome two-bedroom conversion is set in shared gardens and woodland near Chinley, just 2 miles from Chapel-en-le-Frith. It is also the same distance from the scenic Peak District National Park, with its myriad of great dog-walking routes.

Watch your happy hound bound into the attractive holiday home, with its dog-friendly, flagstone floors and bright, airy ambience. At the centre of the retreat is the appealing lounge/diner, where you can fire up the wood burner, then watch TV or dine in its cosy glow. The kitchen is equipped with everything you need to prepare tasty homecooked meals with the fresh produce you have bought and there are doors that can be opened up on fine days so you and your pal can step out into the fresh air together. There is also a WC downstairs. Make your way up to the first floor to discover the gorgeous, family bathroom, which features a freestanding bath, then take more steps up to reach the double bedroom and the twin. The double bedroom has a Juliet balcony. Dine outside in the pretty courtyard garden, with your contented canine close by during the warmer months, taking him for a walk around the leafy grounds afterwards. There is ample parking here.

Head to the Bugsworth Basin, 1.5 miles away, to stretch furry legs with long walks alongside the canal. More energetic pups might like to attempt the steep hikes and climbs around Jacob’s Ladder on the Pennine Way, 10 miles away. Kinder Scout, the highest point in the Peak District, and with magnificent views and even a waterfall, can also be reached from this part of the national park.

Kestrel cottage was lovely, well presented with everything you needed. So welcoming on arrival doors were open, lights on , music playing flowers from their garden, treats for the dogs, eggs from the hens and a bottle of wine. Lovely scenery with lovely walks , local places to visit. I will certainly be returning

We arrived very late at the cottage (22:30) and the owners had prepared the property very welcoming. There were flowers, wine, eggs and dog treats - Thank you The cottage was very clean and nicely decorated. The rooms are arranged over four levels! I personally wished I had checked the location better. We live close to the M20 and depending on tRead morehe weather it is either very quiet or very noisy from the traffic. We found the same at the cottage with the close proximity of the A6. We found the matress very uncomfortable and therefore didn't sleep very well. The pictures are very misleading. The outdoor area is all shared between the tree cottages. If they are all full there will be cars parked right outside Kestrel Cottage. The area was quite nice. Great view from the top of Eccles Pike. We had a lovely walk to Waley Bridge and back along the canal. We loved the Little Mill Pub at Rowarth which has lovely walks. We were very unfortunate with the weather, but the cottage was warm and comfortable, although a little dark. Overall, we wouldn't return - mainly because of the closeness to the A6 (see above) Hide

We had a great stay, the house was warm and inviting and the owners had thought of absolutely everything. The under floor heating and log burner were amazing after a walk across Eccles pike. The children had an amazing time exploring the area and enjoyed the amazing roll top bath. The history of Eccles House fascinated us too. We loved our long wRead moreeekend in Kestrel cottage and can't wait to come back with our dogs next time. Hide

This was by far the most fantastic cottage we have ever stayed in! Everything had been carefully thought out by the owner. The welcome gift of fresh eggs, wine and flowers was so lovely. The history of the renovations provided in the handbook was very interesting too. It reminded me of staying in a Landmark Trust property. I will recommend it to evRead moreeryone! Hide
