Discover a romantic home from home when you escape with your loved one to this pup-friendly hideaway close to Kirk Ireton in Derbyshire. Perfect for a couple with their favourite furry friend in tow, this one-bedroom retreat is just over 1 mile from Carsington Water, with its lakeside walks that waggy-tailed companions simply adore. The characterful cottage has a lawned garden, where you and your partner can relax over a glass of wine, tossing a ball to your playful chum as he bounds about the large lawn.

Take a couple of steps up then let yourselves into this single-storey former barn with an open-plan lounge/diner/kitchen featuring a tiled floor and beamed and vaulted ceiling. Set a fire in the wood burner then sit back to enjoy its cosy warmth as your exhausted pet stretches out by your feet. Whip up a tasty meal over the kitchen area before dining at the table and settling down to watch your favourite programme on TV or a DVD. Feed your furry friend, let him have a last run in the garden, then settle him for the night before you head off to your king-size bedroom. Have a refreshing shower in the shower room the following morning before enjoying breakfast in the sunshine as your happy hound explores. There is parking at this property.

Follow waymarked paths around the lake at Carsington Water, attempting the entire 8-mile route if your pup is able. Drive 6 miles to reach the fringes of the Peak District National Park, with its many great dog walks and special beauty spots. We have recently had a wonderful week at Topshill Cottage. The cottage itself is spotlessly clean with a well equipped kitchen, a lovely comfy bed ensuring a good nights sleep and an excellent shower. We were lucky to be there during the recent hot spell and spent most of our time in the garden when we were not out and about exploring, the views Read moreare magnificent. We saw buzzards, red kites, kestrels and bats coming out to hunt. Our hosts Jane and Andrew were lovely and provided a delicious welcome pack that we very much enjoyed. They were also on hand to tell us the best way to get into the village on foot so we could visit the Barley Mow pub. This is a must see, it is like walking back in time and the locals were so friendly giving us suggestions on where to visit and eat out. We had some lovely walks visiting Carsington Water, Kedleston Hall, Calke Abbey and of course Bakewell. Thank you Jane and Andrew for a fabulous stay and we will be back. Dave and Gerry Hide

Jane & Andrew were lovely & welcoming & thank you for the welcome pack. Can't understand the previous review as we never felt like we were being vetted. They were there if you needed any help or advice, but they weren't knocking on the door all week or bothering you. Just a warm friendly welcome as obviously they want you to have a wonderful stay, which we did. It was our first time to Derbyshire & a week isn't enough to explore this stunning area. We want to return for 2 weeks & definitely wish to stay in this cottage again as its perfect. Great location too to explore Derbyshire & surrounding area. Would recommend it to anyone.
