Stay in this traditional slate cottage in Windermere for a quintessential Lakeland holiday with family or friends – and your beloved dog, of course! It’s decorated in a charming rustic style and has even got its own riverside garden which is perched on the side of Mill Beck. Spend relaxing mornings lapping up the sunshine with the sound of the bubbling brook caressing your ears, then head out in the afternoon to explore the world-famous Lake Windermere (1 mile) and the surrounding area with your faithful friend. There’s space for up to six human guests over four bedrooms, and one canine visitor is also welcome.
On arrival, you’ll surely be impressed by the building’s striking appearance, which has a quaint front gable and elegant stone lintels. The inside is decorated to a very high standard with tasteful wooden furniture, and there are plenty of original features such as wooden beams and sloping ceilings. The cosy lounge is a lovely place to kick back with a film while your pet warms her back by the fire. In the contemporary kitchen, you’ll have everything you need for cooking up delicious meals, and there’s a BBQ available on request for al fresco feasts during the warmer months – we know someone who might fancy a sausage…
The area offers plenty for both two-legged and four-legged guests. Within 100 metres of your front door, there’s a welcoming pub that’s happy to accommodate dogs. For stick-throwing opportunities like no other, you could take the ferry across the lake and then head up Claife Heights (3.5 miles) to enjoy sweeping views over the lake, islands and the Troutbeck Fells. If your pet is the well-behaved type, why not take her kayaking or stand-up paddle boarding? Coniston Water (11 miles) is another local lake well worth sniffing out.
