Enjoy a truly unique stay in this historic windmill in Kirkbymoorside. Beautifully restored to offer cosy accommodation spread over five floors, it offers spectacular views from the top and a pretty garden circling its base. Sleeping up to four guests and one furry friend, this quirky and delightful property makes the perfect base for exploring the North Yorkshire Moors and Yorkshire Coast.

Bursting with charm and character, this three-bedroom property provides a memorable stay. The ground-floor hallway gives you space to shrug off coats, hang up leads and wipe muddy paws before going through to the cosy lounge. Sink into the comfortable sofas after country walkies, your pup snoozing at your side, to relax with a book, watch TV, or challenge your family to a friendly board game. Climb the 12 steep stairs to the first floor to rustle up family favourites and some tasty titbits for Fido in the kitchen, then gather round the table to dine, looking over the town rooftops. On warm evenings, light the barbeque or just enjoy a drink in the garden, while your canine companion potters around. When everybody is weary-pawed, head up to the second, third and fourth floors where you’ll find a double, a single, and a foldout day bed respectively. The top bedroom has truly extraordinary views and a hanging wicker seat, but note that young children must be supervised owing to an open rail leading to the steep staircase.

Gateway to Farndale, Kirkbymoorside is heaven for antiques lovers, with antique shops, galleries and workshops, as well as a choice of pubs and restaurants. Farndale Valley offers abundant glorious walks to delight the entire pack, including the springtime favourite daffodil walk. The walled garden and castle at nearby Helmsley (6 miles) both welcome dogs on leads, and if you fancy a day at the coast, Whitby and Scarborough are 28 and 25 miles respectively.

Really enjoyed our stay at the Old Windmill. Our son absolutely loved sleeping in the upstairs room. The courtyard patio is a real sun trap and ideal for drinks in the evening. The welcome pack was very well received, however I now have an addiction to Parkin cake :)

The Old Windmill is a very nice place and very handily sited for local amenities and yet very peacefully located. The lack of reserved parking was an initial concern, but we made it work. I think there are few modern vehicles that could manage to negotiate the narrow driveway on site!

Fantastic property, felt like home from home. Kitchen has everything you need. Lounge is very comfy, cosy and warm. Beds are very comfortable. The windmill was lovely and warm when we arrived, and a lovely welcome pack was waiting for us. Would highly recommend and would definitely go back.

I loved staying here. Being in a windmill takes you into a different space mentally, if I can be a bit pretentious. The owners have made the place very comfortable and homely, for instance, by having lots of pictures on the staircase walls. The kitchen is very well equipped. There are loads of books to read if the weather keeps you indoors, and gamRead morees for the family. My bed in the double bedroom was very comfortable. And last, but not least, Mr and Mrs Davill provide a very generous welcome pack. Who doesn't love Yorkshire parkin? Hide

Lovely and quirky Windmill. Clean and comfortable. Narrow steep stairs so good knees are a must

Amazing stay in the windmill and so pleasantly surprised by the local area, including Kirbymoorside, that we ended up enjoying the walks to villages and moors nearby!

Interesting and quirky property but, in my opinion, requires upgrades in several areas. Previous reviews had made me aware of the parking challenges so I parked on the street. I've got a large car and am terrible at reversing! Overall, it was fine for the 2 nights we were in the area but I wouldn't have wanted a longer holiday there.

Great quirky cottage, lovely place to stay and a nice village with plenty of amenities. If your car is any bigger than a mini then you wont fit through the archway to park on the drive, there is on street parking generally available
