This idyllic retreat sits in the heart of the North York Moors National Park, less than 10 miles from Helmsley. The property sleeps six guests and two hounds and is perfect for families and friends looking to explore both the rugged landscape of the moors and the breathtaking scenery of the Yorkshire coast (within 30 miles). In the evenings, enjoy al fresco suppers in peaceful surroundings, or snuggle up in the glow of the wood burner.

The detached, 19th-century former chapel is decorated in a country cottage style with pretty fabrics and rustic touches, along with characterful exposed beams and charming sash windows. Kick off muddy boots in the entrance hall and head through to the inviting, split-level lounge, with its double-height ceiling, cosy wood burner, and views of the garden. Unwind here, after a walk with the woofers, reading a book or catching up on your favourite programmes on the Smart TV. The spacious farmhouse-style kitchen has everything needed for a self-catering holiday and a large dining table to seat everyone. With hard floors and direct access to the garden, this is a good spot to set up the dog beds. Completing the ground floor is a family bathroom. Upstairs, discover an attractive double bedroom on a mezzanine floor overlooking the lounge, as well as two further bedrooms (one of which has an en-suite shower room). Outside, enjoy your tranquil surroundings in the large, enclosed garden. There is a raised patio area for al fresco dining, as well as a vast lawn where the pups can play. They''ll also have access to an enclosed dog run area for enjoying a game of fetch.

The picturesque market town of Helmsley is bursting with independent shops and eateries, many of which welcome four-pawed visitors. Your waggy-tailed friends are also welcome to join you in the famous Walled Garden and the grounds of the medieval castle. The area surrounding the cottage is a paradise for walkers and their furry sidekicks, with nearby routes taking you across open moorland, deep into the Bransdale Valley, and high in the Tabular Hills.

The cottage was clean and well equipped. The lounge area was extremely comfortable and relaxing and the garden was a great place to enjoy the sunny weather. There were a number of interesting walks straight from the door and many more within a short drive. We will definitely be returning to enjoy more of the local walks and the hospitality offereRead mored by The Old Chapel. Hide

Our second time in this cottage & just as lovely as the first. The location is brilliant, just a few metres from the moor so great for walking. The garden is perfect for dogs & ours had daily games of chase round & round. Loved it!

We stayed here over new year with our 2 dogs to escape the fireworks and in terms of location, it did not disappoint. There was utter silence our whole stay, it was so peaceful and the walks from the doorstep were second to none. Lovely idillic location. The kitchen is very well equipped with everything you could possibly need. A deep clean was the only issue here. You can easily take walks from your doorstep if you wish. Amenities are not to far away, but not within walking, which we loved. Lots of places to visit within an hours drive away. Having stayed in many holiRead moreday cottages over the years we have always had a lovely thoughtful little welcome pack. We stayed for Xmas and were very disappointed indeed to only received a pint of milk on arrival. That being said we would definitely return again. Hide

We would recommend the cottage but as we put in a note to the owner as apparently they are going there this week it needs a little TLC ps the top of toilet in double bedroom toilet flush pusher springs out we nearly lost it down the toilet. The Chapel is in a lovely tranquil area and very secure for our dog. It is very cosy and we love going there as we have been 3 times. Our only complaints are that it could do with an update and possibly a good spring clean.

A lovely week in the cottage, which gives the lovely peace we were after to recharge. The location is very out of the way - perfect for us but may not be for some. The run up the hill to the moors gave me the exercise and space I needed. We always have a break in the UK and I can see why this cottage would not suit everyone. The cottage is in a lovely position for walks and the only noise is from the lambs across the road (we really miss that). Beds super comfy, and the living room really cosy. The kitchen was a bit rustic but we soon got used to it and really loved our stay here. Would definitely like to come back some time.

We chose The Old Chapel for its secluded location & it was everything we hoped for and more. The garden was a delight and brilliant for our two dogs even though our little street rescue found a number of creative ways to either escape or hide (under the summerhouse!). However, once Frazzle-proofed, it was perfect! For anyone with a normal dog it wRead moreould be a joy. It was brilliant being just a few metres from the moors and we had some lovely, peaceful walks with no one around, made even better as the weather was glorious. We would highly recommend this property for anyone who enjoys not being in the thick of it and who is looking for peace and tranquility (apart from the dirt bikes on Sunday). And if you're looking for a people-fix, the pretty town of Helmsley isn't far. All in all a thoroughly lovely cottage. Hide
