This gorgeous barn conversion is on a quiet lane in the pretty village of Buckden. It makes a romantic retreat for two or it can be booked alongside a larger property that sleeps seven if you’re part of a big group. Being in Wharfedale, the cottage is surrounded by stunning walks, and it has a small garden just across the lane.
The original stone staircase takes you up to the front door on the first floor, and you go into a stylish open-plan kitchen/diner and lounge. The update has retained many charming original features, like the exposed stonework and beamed floor. As well as the lovely, light lounge, there’s a little nook where you can sit and watch the world go by or read a good book. Down the original wooden barn staircase is the bedroom, a spacious room with a luxurious super-king-size bed and an en-suite shower room. It’s flooded with light thanks to the ceiling height window and door. The original barn door is off the bedroom and can be locked and the garden is over the lane with views of Buckden Pike.
Buckden is at the top of Wharfedale in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and sits within the beautiful countryside, making it a popular walking destination. The village is on the Dales Way, which runs alongside the River Wharfe, with walks in both directions. Keen hikers may want to tackle Buckden Pike, the fell that rises above the village, with their furry friends, it’s the second highest peak in Wharfedale after Great Whernside. There are many impressive natural rock formations near Hawes (12 miles away), including Aysgarth and Hardraw Force. The area is also fantastic for stargazing as it has some of the darkest skies in the country.
