We had a very enjoyable weekend stay at Sunnybank Thatch. The house was well heated and well equipped with everything we could need. The beds were extremely comfortable and the house was very clean. The enclosed courtyard space was really handy for letting the dog out securely at night/early morning.

This property has great potential, unfortunately between the owners, so called cleaners and management company it was a huge let down. It was clear the property had not been cleaned before our arrival. Food stained cutlery, kitchen cupboards, stair walls. Thick dust on every surface, mildew around windows in main bedroom. Thick cobwebs throughout Read morethat have obviously been there a long time. Hair and mildew in sinks. Jacuzzi bath (not been functioning for months) Balcony and furniture in a disgusting state, covered in algae and bird droppings. Beautiful views blocked by overgrown and unkempt gardens. Garage door faulty and very disturbing that is operated by an old doorbell! Too many faults to list! The property is in general very shabby, poorly maintained and in need of some modernisation. Very little has been done to this property since it was purchased by auction. Obviously the amount of money it has generated has never been spent to bring it up to a decent standard to reflect the rental costs! Overall Sunny Bank Thatch provided a lovely stay. The beds are extremely comfortable, as was the living room. Nice hot and powerful shower. The location is nice, ideal for those who like walking and trips to the lovely local beaches. The local amenities are good, pubs great. We did get a phone call about an hour before saying that the garageRead more door was not working properly, should be used manually but this was less of an issue as the door worked most of the time. We didn't however get told the advertised spa facilities were not working, and haven't been since after we booked. Nothing was done about this, despite it being the main reason we chose this property for our holiday. We understand from calling Holiday Cottages that this is an ongoing issue due to unavailability of parts. The decor is in keeping with the property, lending an air of twee and charm. All told, we enjoyed our stay despite the spa facilities being non-functional, and would happily return. Hide

The cottage itself is a lovely size and comfortable. It has everything you need. There were some issues however. The property says its pet friendly but there are at least 4 notices around the cottage saying dogs aren't allowed on the furniture, not on the beds, not upstairs. There wasn't anything for them to lay on, no throws or bowls. I do takRead moree my own things for him but other properties we have stayed at that are pet friendly, always leave out something for the dog. The front garden desperately needs attention. Very overgrown trees, bushes and weeds.Theres no back garden, more like a yard, again, needs attention. The inside is old fashioned and probably modernising in places. All that said, we did enjoy our stay, the bed is very comfy and the shower is hot and powerful. Hinderwell is a great location. Very handy for all local beaches and a bus stop round the corner that we used to go to Whitby, about 9 miles away. The local beaches are amazing and are all dog friendly. There's a couple of pubs within walking distance but we drove out to other pubs around 5 mins drive away. Hide
