This rustic hideaway enjoys a peaceful setting just outside the village of Llanmadoc, on the stunning Gower Peninsula. The spacious cottage sleeps eight humans and two hounds and boasts two lounge areas and an attractive patio garden for outdoor entertaining. The surrounding area is a haven for dog walkers, with a multitude of routes through ancient woodland and open fields. You can also join the Wales Coast Path just 1 mile away.
The traditional Gower longhouse is reached via a gravel driveway, followed by a flight of stone steps to the front door. Inside, the property has a chic, country-cottage vibe, which complements the cottage’s original features. After a day of adventure with your hounds, chill out in the main lounge, which has an array of comfortable seating set around a TV and a cosy wood burner. Alternatively, curl up in the second lounge with your favourite book. Both rooms have direct access to the garden, allowing the dogs to potter in and out. At mealtimes, gather in the bright and airy kitchen/diner, where you’ll find everything needed for a self-catering holiday and a large dining table to seat everyone. A sleek shower room completes the ground floor. An oak staircase leads to the first floor and the four inviting bedrooms, one of which has an en-suite shower room. Please note, that one of the double bedrooms is reached via a couple of steps, and the twin bedroom has restricted head height in some areas due to the original beams. A gorgeous bathroom with a free-standing bath rounds off the first floor. To the rear of the cottage, you’ll find a patio area with outdoor furniture and a BBQ for al fresco dining. There are lawned areas to the front and rear of the cottage, providing ample space for the pups to play. Both lawns have drops from the lawned area, so small children should be accompanied at all times, and the sloped rear lawn is set above a natural spring so can become waterlogged at certain times of the year. Private parking is available at the property.
Llanmadoc (0.5 miles) is a rural village with a paw-friendly pub and a village shop. There are some beautiful walks branching away from the village, including to the summit of LLanmadoc Hill, where you’ll find a fascinating Iron Age fort as well as spectacular views across the peninsula. A woodland walk through Cwm Ivy brings you to the National Trust’s Whiteford Sands (1.5 miles). This vast, sandy beach is backed by dunes and welcomes four-pawed visitors all year. Day trips from the cottage include the idyllic Rhossili Bay (9.5 miles) and the seaside resort of Mumbles (14.5 miles).
