Combining traditional character with modern amenities, this charming cottage makes a fabulous destination for a special getaway with family or friends plus a canine companion. In a quiet spot close to the centre of the bustling village of Grasmere, it’s spacious and comfortable, and has a large, peaceful back garden.
You’ll have no trouble getting cosy in this converted barn, snuggling in front of the wood burner in the lounge, where stone flags and exposed, low beams (mind your head!) set the welcoming tone. Just off this room is the kitchen/diner, in which contemporary style and practicality meet the lovely look of a pitched roof with wooden beams. Also on this floor you’ll find an elegantly decorated king-size bedroom, with a TV, wet room and patio doors to the garden. On the first floor, the light and airy master bedroom has a double bed, en-suite shower room and a private balcony overlooking the garden – a delightful spot for a morning coffee or even an afternoon snooze. The second double bedroom and twin room share a luxurious family bathroom. The sloping garden, which is partially enclosed, is flanked by trees and has a patio for al fresco dining and a lawn which will surely get Fido’s tail wagging.
Grasmere offers a choice of pup-friendly pubs, cafes and restaurants (don’t forget to try the speciality gingerbread) and there are lovely fell and lakeside walks from your door, offering superb vistas of this glorious scenic area. For a spot of history visit Allan Bank, the 19th century villa that was once home to Wordsworth, less than half a mile away, Even muddy dogs are welcome in the house and walkers can follow miles of spectacular pathway around the garden and woodlands, keeping an eye out for red squirrels.
