A very disappointing cottage. On arrival the key pad did not work. It took sometime to obtain a key and 2 days to obtain a second key (from agency). Locks on front and back doors stiff. No on street parking outside cottage. Available parking space in adjacent road was some distance away. Cottage has a very unpleasant smell of drains. We found AppleRead more Cottage small and cramped. Upstairs bathroom only accessible through 2nd bedroom. We found downstairs furniture shabby, uncomfortable and cramped. We found the sofas, cushions and rush matting grubby. The matting arrangement provided trip hazards. Log burner had been turned into a decorative feature. No logs or firelighters. Central heating was controlled remotely as were towel rails, which did not work. TV relatively small with only freeview. The bed in the second bedroom was pushed against the wall and access to the wardrobe was narrow. We would never choose to stay at Apple Cottage again. Response from Holiday Cottages - thank you for your feedback however it clearly states there is no private parking on the website and the description states it is a very small cottage for only 3 people. The log burner is useable and the furniture and equipment is of very good quality. Hide

Would not recommend if you are elderly or disabled in any way. The cottage was very cramped with oversized and uncomfortable furniture. Lots of trip hazards as uneven flooring with multiple rugs and a very musty smell. The stairs are steep and twisty. The TV was 22 with basic freeview programmes. The garden was remote from the house with 3 steps upRead more to it. Garden chairs were uncomfortable and needed attention as did the garden. The shower downstairs was good and the front bedroom had a comfortable bed. No detail which was specific to the property was available. No one told us the entry code had changed and the owner wasnt available to talk to. Luckily the agent was still open at 6pm when we arrived after a very long journey from Scotland by rail then car. Response from holidaycottages.co.uk: Thank you for your review. The description clearly states it is a 200 year old cottage that is small but perfectly formed. The cottage is not suitable for those with mobility issues due to steep stairs. Hide

The cottage is beautiful. Very well provided for and beautifully clean. It is not an easy property for anyone with any disability as the sitting room seating is all low and the sides of the bath very high. This is not being critical but these things would be difficult for anyone with mild disability to navigate.
