Property code: OC-1938

This quirky one-bed lodge makes the ideal romantic and rural bolthole, set on the stunning Holkham Estate in North Norfolk. Located in a Grade II-listed former gatehouse, complete with an adjacent archway, this bijou gem has been thoughtfully converted into a comfortable holiday home with charming touches. Wander the 25,000-acre estate with your canine friends (on leads) or head out to explore the wider Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The spacious lounge has a wonderful red-brick chimney breast that runs up the wall and into the ceiling, with imposing exposed beams on either side in this apex ceiling. It houses a cosy wood burner which the hounds will love on cooler evenings. There’s also a table set for three and a simple kitchenette. In one corner, a staircase heads down where you’ll discover vaulted cellars containing the contemporary super-king-size bedroom, snug/TV room and adjacent shower room both under arched ceilings. There’s another bathroom complete with a bath for holiday soaks and a fabulous atrium with a large skylight for weather-watching by day or stargazing by night. Outside, the dogs can potter about in the lawned garden.

Lead the way to canine capers at beautiful Holkham Beach (4 miles). It’s dog-friendly all year which all loyal owners know is great news – you can even walk there through the estate. Stop in the village on the way there or back for refreshments and a look about. Head to Blakeney Point (8.5 miles) at certain times of the year to see England’s largest grey seal population – but do check restrictions for dogs.

  • 1 bedroom - 1 super-king-size

If you want a quiet, secluded get away you couldn't doo much better than Palmers Lodge. Our third time there and probably not the last.

Excellent, as described in a wonderful location. The stairs were a challenge for us but expected (we are a couple aged 65 & 70) as other reviewers highlighted but not a deal breaker, just a matter of taking them slow and steady. The location is idyllic and the estate team were all super friendly. We had one problem in that the shower would noRead moret drain and flooded the shower room. The problem was unable to be resolved, so we were unable to use it after day one. The adjacent lodge shower was offered as an alternative. We did not take up their offer but rediscovered the joys of having a bath instead, it was wonderful! Now we are home I'm costing have a new bath tub put in as I forgot how nice and chilled it is soaking in a bath instead of a quick shower! Fabulous place and location, our next visit will probably be to the smaller lodge as it doesn't have stairs. Hide

If you want a quiet break Palmer's Lodge is an excellent place to stay. We have been guests there off-and-on for over 20 years (well before it was renovated) and plan to return in 2026.

Palmers Lodge is an amazing property to stay in, from the quirky layout having the bedroom and bathrooms in the vaults downstairs, to the luxury furnishings. The kitchen was small but well equipped. The setting is surreal, being part of the wonderful Holkham estate. We had no issues with the WiFi as suggested in the welcome pack. There was a probleRead morem with the shower the first morning, but no soon as it was reported someone was sent to fix it. The walks on the estate are extensive! Not only are they within the Park but down to the beach and into Wells next the sea. We made good use of the parking pass provided as well as the discount card. We had a wonderful meal at the Victoria Hotel. All of the staff we came into contact with were knowledgeable, attentive and welcoming. Would definitely rent a property here again. Hide

How wonderful to wake up in this quirky property within this beautiful park. We would love to stay here again. But its not for everyone. The beautiful arch is two properties. You are very close to your neighbours. The bedroom is underground and has resident spiders and is quite clammy. The spiral staircase might be too narrow for some. (Our Read moredog didnt like the open back to the staircase and needed to be carried) The kitchen is good for breakfast and lunches, but not equipped for a full supper. Yet, the lovely welcome pack, the stunning location, this very special spot, hopefully encourages you to stay. We had a lovely time here. The walks are stunning. The villages around are beautiful. We had no experience of North Norfolk until our stay here, but this has encouraged us to visit here again. Hide

Palmers Lodge: 17-22/4/25. The lodge is located on the east drive of Holkham estate. A lovely private setting, surrounded by woodland. The lodge is comfortable and warm. There was an issue with the shower thermostat on our visit, over an Easter weekend. An emergency plumber was unable to rectify on call-out. So unfortunately the shower was effecRead moretively unusable during our 5 day stay. The lodge is well equipped, though could benefit from more crockery in the kitchen area and an armchair for extra comfort. Of note is a steep spiral stairs to the bedroom area, which could be difficult to navigate for some. Included in the price was free Parking and discounts at Holkham outlets in the area. Hide

The lodge was perfect for us and beat the description on the web site and our expectations'. A lovely quiet spot, buried in the heart of the wood. We had the grounds , the house to explore, and the walled garden was beautiful, and huge! The staff are unfailingly warm, friendly and professional. We will be going back.
