Go mutts in this sweet cottage near Coverack, on Cornwall’s fascinating Lizard Peninsula. Perfect for families and two canine companions, it’s the ideal base for getting out and about in unspoilt countryside and running free on a choice of dog-friendly beaches.
Set on one level, this welcoming cottage has everything you need for a relaxing rural break, with two steps up from the front porch leading to an open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner. Pop your canine friends’ bowls down on the floor of the corner kitchen, and they can snooze by your feet as you watch TV from the comfortable sofas. The two bright and pretty bedrooms, a double and a twin, share the charming bathroom, which offers a shower over the bath set up. Outside, your pupsters will love playing in the enclosed, lawned front garden while you enjoy a drink or a meal alfresco.
With the rugged scenery of the Lizard Peninsula all around you, it’s just 3.5 miles to the picturesque fishing village of Coverack and the golden sands of its year-round, dog-friendly beach (though remember there’s much less of it at high tide!). Discover the coastal paths and breathtaking scenery of this lesser-known and remote-feeling part of South Cornwall, the most southerly point of the British mainland, full of wildlife and intriguing places to visit. Try Roskilly’s, 2 miles, where you can enjoy ice cream made from the Jersey herd grazing nearby (pups on leads are welcome on the farm and in the courtyard area of its restaurant), or the Cornish Seal Sanctuary, 7.5 miles, where dogs are also welcome on leads. Don’t miss a Friday night at the Cadgwith Cove Inn, 7.5 miles, when the local Cadgwith Singers strike up with their sea shanties around 9.30pm.
