This traditional cottage set on a working sheep farm is full of character and makes an ideal getaway for families or friends. In a tranquil location close to the village of Coniston, it’s surrounded by glorious views and has a garden where your furry friends can chase their tails.
Set half a mile down a small, single track, this 300-year-old farmhouse offers a taste of authentic Lakeland life, its historic charm complete with low beams, uneven floors and old, latched doors. Enter through a beautiful wood-panelled hallway and into the lounge/diner, where comfortable sofas are gathered around a wood burner in an inglenook fireplace, and the dining table by the window enjoys lovely views. Across the hall, the country-style kitchen is well-equipped for preparing tasty meals, and also on this floor is the family bathroom, with underfloor heating to take the chill off on cooler days. As you go up the stairs you can further appreciate the age of the cottage, and here, with more low ceilings and wonky floors, you’ll find three pretty bedrooms – two doubles and a twin – each with ample storage and picturesque rural views. Heading outside, a fenced-off, grassed area is the perfect spot for canine companions to let off steam while you enjoy a seat at the picnic bench, taking in the spectacular vistas across the surrounding fells.
In the heart of the Lake District National Park, the cottage offers a choice of walking and mountain biking routes straight from the front door. For shops, pubs and restaurants, the village of Coniston is 4 miles away, while Ambleside is just 5 miles. Four-pawed friends are welcome to join you on a cruise of Coniston Water, hopping off and on at the jetties or combining it with one of the popular walking routes around the lake.
