The traditional whitewashed cottage is set in the idyllic village of Helford on The Lizard Peninsula. Sleeping five guests and two hairy sidekicks, the property is ideal for both families and groups of friends. Set on an unspoilt river, the village is a haven for dog walkers, with wooded tracks and sheltered valleys to sniff and explore. Nearby woof-friendly attractions include Durgan National Trust and Trebah Garden (both within 15 miles). In the evening, snuggle by the wood burner or share a BBQ by the babbling creek.
Enter through the stable door, into the characterful cottage. The lounge is bursting with original features and has a roaring wood burner to toast your toes in front of after a long walk with the woofers. The separate dining room has wooden floors and a gorgeous open fire, making it a lovely, cosy spot for the dog beds. Completing the ground floor is the kitchen and a handy shower room. Upstairs, discover an elegant king-size bedroom with a four-poster bed, along with a pretty twin and a cosy single. There is also a family bathroom. Outside, the picturesque courtyard is set next to the wooded creek, and has outdoor furniture and a BBQ for al fresco dining.
The surrounding area is awash with walking trails. At the top of the village there’s a wooded track leading to Gillan Creek, which was the inspiration for Daphne du Maurier’s ‘Frenchman’s Creek,’ and you can also enjoy peaceful strolls along the Helford River. In summer, a foot ferry allows you to explore both sides of the water. Many of The Lizard’s beaches are paw friendly. A favourite amongst dog walkers is Grebe Beach (2 miles via the foot ferry), which is a secluded spot surrounded by woodlands and is also a great place for wild swimming.
