  • Modern accommodation with stunning sea views
  • Ideal base for exploring Porthleven and the southern tip of Cornwall

Property code: OC-LAMPHO

Wake up to the smell of sea air in this charming cottage overlooking Mounts Bay. The property sleeps four guests and one pup and makes a great couples’ retreat or base for a small family. The area is a haven for dog walkers, with the South West Coast Path passing nearby and countryside walks branching away from Porthleven. Like much of Cornwall, the town is extremely canine friendly, with many pubs and restaurants welcoming furry visitors.

The coastal bolthole has a reverse-level layout, making the most of the fabulous sea views. On the ground floor are two bedrooms: the first is a king-size with homely soft furnishings and the second is a cosy twin with an en-suite bathroom. Upstairs, discover a gorgeous, open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, with a wall of picture windows framing the fantastic ocean vista. Enjoy meals at the dining table looking out to sea, or sink into the leather sofa, with your hairy companion at your feet, to watch the TV or a DVD. Hard floors run throughout this level, making it a good place for Fido to set up camp. Completing the accommodation is a stylish kitchen area. There is a small, enclosed terrace to the rear, with furniture for al fresco dining.

Porthleven is full of Cornish charm. Enjoy a morning dog walk around the lively harbour, as the fishing boats leave for the day, followed by a coffee and cake in one of the woof-friendly cafes. The beach is sand and shingle and has a designated area that welcomes hounds all year. At low tide, you can walk from here to Loe Bar (1.5 miles), which is the largest natural freshwater lake in Cornwall. The beauty spot is a lovely place for a picnic on a sunny afternoon, followed by a walk through the surrounding woodlands.

From December 2023 Lamp House and Neptune House will share an EV charger (7.4kWh charger with a Type 2 connector). Guests will be charged on a 'pay as you go' basis at a rate of 40p / kWh via an App that you will need to download. Please bring your own charge cable as this will not be supplied. Full details will be provided on arrival.

The Lamphouse is a lovely place to stay. The bench seats around the table looking out through the big windows was my favourite place to sit and just while away the time - knitting or reading. The kitchen was very well stocked with equipment too. As a non drinker I would have preferred a bottle of mile instead of the bottle of wine, but that's jusRead moret my opinion. Comfortable bed too which was was nice. We were very blessed with the weather which made the holiday just perfect. Hide

If you are looking for a relaxing property with a sublime view over Mount's Bay, you cannot do better than the Lamp House. Set 15 minutes' gentle walk out of Porthleven itself, the distance pays for itself at Food Festival time (three days in early May) when the town becomes somewhat noisy. Within easy reach of Gweek Seal Sanctuary, Glendurgan and Read moreTrebah Gardens, there is also an hourly bus service towards either Penzance or Falmouth, so you can leave the car packed up. Local food establishments such as the Twisted Currant (for wonderful lunches and cream teas) and Catch, the place to go for an ENORMOUS fish and chips (most will only need one between two!) Both these establishments also provide gluten-free offerings, as does the Harbour Inn. Hide

Lamp house cottage is situated in the most perfect position, the views from the lounge are mesmerising and the walk down to the town is fine, about 10 minutes and youre there where there are a few restaurants and a couple of pubs. We loved every single second of our trip to a beautiful, still relaxing and peaceful part of Cornwall.

Wonderful location and views from the lounge. Perfectly positioned for walking the Coastal Path. Enjoyed the open plan first floor which meant no one was isolated while cooking meals. We could tell the owners used the house themselves as it was so well equipped. Had a great meal at the Harbour Inn.
