Experience country life at this pup-friendly couple’s retreat, where pet pigs and a games room add entertainment value. While here, you’ll be able to observe the daily routines of a busy dairy, beef and sheep farm plus relax with riverside walks and even a spot of fishing.
Exposed beams and feature brickwork add to the homely feel of this semi-detached hideaway, which accommodates two people and a pair of canine loved ones. On the ground floor, a cute kitchen with a breakfast bar and bar stools has an arched serving hatch through to the living/dining room. Here, a brick fireplace houses a wood burner-effect electric fire, and comfortable sofas suggest snuggly evenings in front of the TV while the dogs snooze at your feet. When they need a sniff of fresh air, simply open the large patio doors onto the enclosed garden. Upstairs, a light and airy bedroom can be set up with either twin beds or a king-size. Sloping ceilings create a restful setting for sleep while windows on three sizes allow in light; a similarly airy bathroom completes the upper floor layout. Your living space is extended by the enclosed garden, which is shared with guests in the neighbouring cottage. Fire up the BBQ – not forgetting extra sausages for the dogs – and dine alfresco, then enjoy an after-dinner game of pool or darts in the shared games room next door. (please request access to this from the owners)
There’s plenty to do on laid-back days here: make friends with the farm’s Kunekune pet pigs or try your hand at fishing – two rivers pass through the property. When you’re ready for a wander, riverside walks lead to the village of Meifod (2 miles), or you could drive 7 miles to the market town of Welshpool and then follow the Montgomery Canal towpath to historic Newtown. Alternatively, in summer you can ride the dog-friendly steam train from Welshpool to the rural community of Llanfair Caereinion – the gradients are the steepest in Britain!
