This picturesque cottage on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park has masses of period character and beautiful antique furnishings. Conveniently close to walks and water sports, beaches, castles, heritage railways and beautiful scenery, it’s a peaceful rural getaway for families or friends with up to two canine companions.
Original features, quirky touches and pops of colour give this irresistible property enormous charm. The wood-panelled kitchen/diner has olde-worlde style but all the modern conveniences you’ll need to dish up delicious holiday meals, and you can get cosy afterwards in the lounge with its beamed ceiling and Welsh dresser – perhaps perching right by the wood burner within the inglenook fireplace. Pass the evening with a book, game, TV show or some tunes on the piano. From the lounge, take the spiral staircase to the first floor, where there are two bedrooms, a king-size and a twin, both with sloping, beamed ceilings and wooden beds. The impressive sense of history is completed by a family bathroom with a cast-iron bath. For fresh air and games of fetch, the spacious, enclosed garden is bound to get tails wagging - it has a stream, wildlife pond and mature trees. And while your hairy hounds are sniffing around, you can be enjoying an al fresco drink or meal on the patio.
The cottage is just 5.5 miles from the seaside town of Criccieth, which is overlooked by magnificent castle ruins and has a dog-friendly beach. In the harbour town of Porthmadog, 8 miles, there’s a variety of shops and, when you’ve had enough retail therapy, you can climb aboard a heritage train for a 13.5-mile trip through gorgeous scenery to the slate-quarrying town of Blaenau Ffestiniog. At Abersoch Beach, 19 miles, you can try out some water sports, including water skiing, powerboating and windsurfing.
