Set tails wagging with a trip to Dartmouth. This property is ideal for mixed groups and their canine companions and will suit anyone who likes sniffing out history, nature and good pub grub. Prepare to leave pawprints on the beach and feel sand between your toes.
As you enter the cottage up a couple of steps, you’ll find a spacious lounge with some chairs beside the bay window, perfect for curling up and watching the ships cross the river. There’s a kitchen/diner, nicely equipped and finished with wooden cabinets and a matching table, with room for everyone to feast together. Flexible sleeping arrangements are accommodated across the three double bedrooms, all airy and decorated in sandy tones, one with an additional single bed, and the other with an additional double sofa bed (available on request). This property doesn’t have a garden, but there are plenty of local walks and places to explore.
Directly next door to the property is Bayard’s Cove Fort, a fascinating Tudor castle where visitors can pop in and out at their leisure. It’s a great slice of nautical history, and there’s lots more to find. If you walk 1 mile south, you’ll come to Dartmouth Castle, which welcomes dogs on the grounds and connects to the charmingly named Sugary Cove Beach. It''s quiet there, so you can listen to the waves brush against the shingle and relax. If you’re peckish, try the centre of Dartmouth for dog-friendly pubs and other eateries, or take a picnic to the National Trust Little Dartmouth Reserve, where you’ll find the ruins of a Civil War fort.
