A beautifully presented period cottage enveloped by lush lawns and situated in the riverside village of Upton in Norfolk. This characterful country hideaway is perfect for a family of outdoor enthusiasts and a couple of waggy-tailed pals. Grab the leads then set your canine’s senses alight with an amble through the tranquil Fairhaven Woodland and Water Garden (3 miles), before stretching out in the warmth of the roaring wood burner for a snooze.

This appealing red-brick property boasts a sophisticated cottage interior with period features, soft neutral tones, and exposed wooden beams. Slide off sandy harnesses then pad through the stable door to the inviting lounge. Kick back on the padded seating and sip a brew or snuggle in for an evening movie marathon with Fido curled by the fire. Pour a tipple then rustle up some post-adventure nibbles in the light-flooded shaker kitchen. Tempt the pack into the conservatory with the scent of home cooking. Gather around the dining table and tuck into a hearty feast overlooking the leafy garden. After dinner, scoop up your sleepy pup then rest up on the wicker chairs for a late-night natter. Climb the steep steps to the sleeping areas, consisting of a bright double with a pull-out single bed for a child, and an airy twin – each with plush soft furnishings. Bask in balmy summer days as you watch the little ones and pups playing on the lawn, get lunch sizzling on the BBQ, or sip a hot drink and stargaze beneath the twinkling night sky.

Scamper alongside the burbling banks of the River Bure during a circular hike from the market town of Acle (2 miles) before settling in for a laid-back lunch in the waterfront inn that warmly welcomes furry patrons. Sniff in the salty ocean breeze with a scenic stroll along the Norfolk Coast Path from Winterton (12 miles) or spot the imposing gothic turrets of Norwich Cathedral as you enjoy a good stretch of your legs at Mousehold Heath (12 miles).

The owners were very pleasant people but the facilities were not up to scratch (as listed above). Staircase certainly not suitable for elderly or infirm.

We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful cottage. It feels so homely & cosy and spotlessly clean. The new conservatory is fabulous and we spent most of our time in there enjoying our evenings after a busy day exploring. Our dogs loved the garden which was so dog friendly & safe. We enjoyed the local walks to the village and to the Broads. Watts coRead morettage is a great base to explore Norfolk . Winterton On Sea is well worth a visit as are Holt and Aylsham , lovely market towns with independent shops. The owners , Jayne & Philip were excellent hosts throughout our stay . We will certainly be returning and would have no hesitation to recommend to friends and family. Thank you for such a wonderful holiday. Carol & Linda Hide

Homemade scones on arrival which were a delight. A real home from home in the countryside air. Not too far from anywhere so an ideal base for a break.

Another fantastic stay at Watts Cottage. The owners who live in adjoining property are lovely people and on hand if needed but very discreet and let you enjoy your break. The property is spotlessly clean and very well equipped. Walks from the doors if required and just such a peaceful restful couple of weeks. The local village is excellent with aRead more community shop and pub. We will definitely return again. Thanks for a fantastic couple of weeks. Dave & Lesley Hide

This was our second visit to Watts Cottage. It was just as cosy and comfortable as the first time and very well equipped. The large conservatory was a lovely, light space during the day, and the living room a cosy refuge with a wood-burner for the colder nights. The stairs are scarily steep, with the bathroom downstairs, but this adds to the chRead morearacter of the cottage, as long as you are careful. The main bedroom is spacious, peaceful and very comfortable. Our dogs loved the garden. Its not often that we find somewhere that is properly dog proofed. The location is great too, with the pub and community shop within walking distance. Both Norwich and the lovely beaches at Great Yarmouth are within easy reach by car. We would definitely recommend Watts Cottage. Hide
