Close to the village of Chapel Stile, this bright and stylish cottage is an ideal base for a couple’s getaway or family holiday exploring the Lake District, and welcomes a furry friend, too.

Clever design creates a practical and comfortable layout in this bijou property, set over two storeys. On the ground floor, the open-plan lounge is flooded with light from large windows and glazed patio doors, with a high, pitched ceiling giving a sense of space. To one side the comfortable seating is gathered around a Smart TV, while a compact dining table and chairs is tucked opposite, beside the staircase. The kitchen has everything you’ll need to create tasty meals, with space to pop down Fido’s food and water bowls, too. The cosy double bedroom and chic family bathroom are also on this floor, while if you head upstairs you’ll find the twin bedroom tucked under the eaves (some restricted head height), with exposed beams and a large skylight window. For enjoying the fresh air and sunshine, there’s a small gravelled area to the front of the cottage with a bench seat and bistro table and chairs.

If you want to leave the car at home, there are walks of all kinds straight from your front door, and a dog-friendly pub less than half a mile away in the village for a refreshing pint afterwards. For a change, drive to Waterhead, 5.5 miles, where you can hop on board an elegant cruiser or hire a self-drive motorboat and explore Lake Windermere from the water – an unforgettable day out. For a little bit of retail therapy, Ambleside is only 5 miles, while Grasmere is 9 miles by car or 2.5 miles on foot – and don’t forget to try the speciality gingerbread.

Fantastic location with a beautiful view from the front of the house. The house was warm and clean house. We had a good stay, but the house is a bit cramped for 4 adults staying for anything other than a few days (we were there for 2 nights). The kitchen is very small and only allows one person to work in there at a time. Theres a very low ceiling Read morein the bathroom so its easy to bang your head when using the shower. This would benefit from some padding. For the money we paid we would have expected some basic supplies to be provided such as milk, salt and pepper. The welcome pack consisted of some tea bags and a small pack of biscuits. Hide

Positives: great location and view. Other than above comments kitchen was well equipped. Comfortable albeit small bedroom. This cottage is cozy and comfortable for two but four would feel very cramped. Negatives: above comments and also guests should be warned the access from parking area is a steep slope which gets slippery when wet. Not suitableRead more for anyone with mobility concerns. Hide

A cosy cottage with stunning views and easy access to numerous places of interest including Rydal Water, Tarn Hows and Grasmere. A lovely walk from the cottage by Elterwater too. The cottage itself, although small was comfortable and well equipped for cooking.

Would give the cottage 5 stars for the view and the position. The only downsides to the property was the difficult access. The car had to be parked away from the cottage so wouldnt be very good if you had mobility problems. The property is fairly small , bit of a squash for four , more suited for a couple. The bedroom is very small which made it dRead moreifficult getting in the bed! Also the kitchen is fairly small with a smallish fridge , Apart from that its very clean and we enjoyed our 3 night stay . The village of Chapel Stile is lovely with a good shop, cafe and lovely pub. The accommodation is in a beautiful location, with lovely walks from the front door. The village shop is well stocked and very friendly. And the Wainwright Inn is a great place for a meal.

A really lovely cottage in a fantastic location. Some great walks and great for local wild life. Would recommend the walk along the river to Skelwith Bridge and lunch at Chesters. There is a small fridge/freezer so dont turn up with a weeks shopping - but we liked supporting the local co-op which is very well stocked with excellent produce.
