There are walks from the doorstep of this converted stone barn, which is ideal for a family holiday – plus two furry besties – in the heart of the Lake District. Situated between the villages of Elterwater and Grasmere, it has stunning views over Grasmere Water from its patio garden.
External steps take you to the front door of this pretty property, which looks distinctly traditional from the outside, while blending original features with modern amenities inside. The open-plan living space has a high ceiling open to the rafters, and combines a comfortable lounge area, a dining table for four and a cleverly designed corner kitchen with a small breakfast bar. Warm colours and a timber floor make this a welcoming and cosy space to come back to after a day out exploring. The two en-suite bedrooms, a double and a twin, can be found at either end of the barn. Head outside, about 50m down the driveway from the barn, down nine uneven slate steps and across a grassy area, and you’ll come to your designated, private patio. What could be nicer than enjoying the beautiful scenery from here while relaxing in the fresh Lakeland air?
The picturesque village of Grasmere, just over a mile away, boasts a choice of pup-friendly pubs, cafes and restaurants to suit any taste. Allan Bank, the 19th century villa that was once home to Wordsworth, is just over a mile away, and has a beautiful garden and a woodland walk. Well-behaved canine companions on leads, even muddy ones, are welcome here, both inside and out. And it’s just 5.5 miles to Waterhead, from where you can join a steamer cruise of Lake Windermere, which will surely be one of the highlights of your trip.
