It’s full steam ahead on a holiday to this picture-postcard cottage, brilliantly situated in Grosmont for taking advantage of the popular North Yorkshire Moors Railway. And, yes, dogs can go too (for a small – ahem – Rover fare!). Accommodating up to four humans and one furry friend, it suits a small family or even a couple keen on exploring this beautiful area. Inside the cottage, original and rustic features mix seamlessly with comfortable modern design.
This attractive stone cottage is accessed via some stone steps from the street, so be sure to have dog towels to hand as you enter. The light and bright lounge is an inviting space with a cosy feel courtesy of the beamed and wood-panelled ceiling and a wood burner. Through an archway is the generous kitchen/diner with a table seating four and a fully equipped kitchen that more than one chef can work in at a time. Wooden floors throughout the downstairs are ideal for your canine companion who is sure to find a spot to snooze after a bracing walk. For sleeping, there’s one double and one twin bedroom, both individually but tastefully decorated and with quaint slightly sloping ceilings making them restful spaces. There’s a lovely large garden with lawns and rustic stonework, but it’s not fully enclosed.
For a holiday with a bygone flavour, you could use the NYMR steam trains as your means of both seeing the sights and travelling around. Stations include Whitby, Pickering which is 1930s-themed, and the engineering all takes place at Grosmont, so if you’re a steam fan, keep your eyes peeled. Or lead the way to adventure with your fellow guests and best buddy on foot, exploring the natural splendour of the surrounding Esk Valley and North York Moors National Park.
