This sweet cottage for two in the beautiful Peak District is a wonderfully romantic retreat, and a dog’s delight for their canine companions. The stone-built property in the village of Alderwasley welcomes one pet or two small ones, and has a large, enclosed field where pups can romp in safety. This a perfect base for exploring Derbyshire’s hills and dales. Lovely scenic walks are close by, with interesting new smells for furry friends to investigate. A dog-friendly village pub serving food is within 0.5-mile stroll away down a country footpath, with more places to eat and independent shops in the picturesque market town of Wirksworth, 2 miles distant.

Exposed stone and beams make this story-book cottage a delight to come home to. The charmingly furnished open-plan ground floor has comfortable seating, ideal for relaxing in front of the wood burner-effect electric fire, while dogs nap on their special blanket or bed. Underfloor heating adds a cosy touch, and the pretty kitchen has a dining spot. Upstairs is a glamorous king-size bed with a super en-suite bathroom with shower over the bath. Outside, the garden patio has a swing seat and lovely view, along with a warm dog wash area.

Wirksworth is home to the delightful Ecclesbourne Valle Railway. Jump aboard the vintage steam train to travel through the lovely Derbyshire landscape. Dogs are welcome and travel free. Visit pretty Cromford (3 miles) on the banks of the River Derwent and discover its fascinating history of water-powered industry at the excellent visitor centre. Take an exhilarating hike along The High Peak Trail, one of several great walks from Cromford, including a path along the town’s tranquil canal. Lively Matlock Bath (5 miles) offers a great day out, with thrilling cable cars that whisk you up dramatic cliffs.
