Take your two travelling pups to this charming, stone cottage in the centre of the lovely village of Brassington, which is ideal for families or friends seeking an active holiday in the Peak District. Brassington has beautiful winding streets to meander, two village pubs, and a children’s play area. Walkers are spoilt for choice, so let your canine companions lead you on the scenic, circular walk around Carsington Water (2 miles), before returning to relax in the cottage’s spacious and airy living spaces.

This characterful property, set over two levels, offers contemporary comfort alongside original features such as exposed wooden beams and slate floors. The country kitchen has everything you need to cook up a storm, and offers a farm-style dining table for friends and family to gather around. Completing the kitchen is comfortable seating for kids to kick back on as dinner cooks, and even doggy blankets, so guests and furry friends can enjoy the warmth of the room’s wood burner together. For further relaxation, head to the garden lounge surrounded by greenery with its Smart TV, or the charming lounge which features another wood burner and more comfortable seating. Completing the downstairs is a light single bedroom, a shower room and a handy utility room. Upstairs awaits another shower room and the four remaining bedrooms; a king-size room which can be turned into a twin on request and features an en-suite bathroom; and three inviting double bedrooms. Outside, you can enjoy open countryside views from the pretty enclosed garden which comes with a BBQ, the perfect spot for al fresco meals.

Your four-legged friends are ready to sniff out an adventure on the wonderful Tissington Trail (6.5 miles) where you’ll find cycle hire facilities. Here, the old railway line makes for secure and flat walking and offers dog-friendly tea rooms along the way. The National Trust's Ilam Park, with its magnificent walks to Dovecote and the White Peak, is 11 miles away. The fabulous Chatsworth House (13 miles) has over 1,000 acres for you and your pups to explore and makes for a great day out as a group.

A lovely comfortable cottage with great views, perfect for a family gathering. The kitchen is very well equipped and it is a lovely place both for exploring the Peak District, or equally spending rainy days. We liked Brassington and had a good meal at The Olde Gate Inn
