This stone-built former schoolhouse is located deep within the lush Snowdonia National Park, making it a true dream for doggies and their owners. It’s in Dolgellau, a bustling town and community that’s the base for countless walking and cycling routes out into the hills. With space for five guests over its three bedrooms, this pet-friendly home is wonderful for families and groups of friends seeking a calming Welsh holiday with one dog.
Dating back to the 1700s, this attractive property is brimming with original features including a grand sash window, flagstone floors and a huge inglenook fireplace. In the lounge/diner, a large dining table offers a cosy spot for dining with fellow guests. A log burner is on hand to warm you all up; no doubt your whiskered friend will choose a sleeping spot near the heat. After dinner, unwind in front of the Smart TV while your pet snoozes. In the quaint kitchen, you’ll have everything needed for cooking yummy suppers for the humans. This opens to the charming rear garden, which is enclosed so your pet can roam freely and safely. When it’s time to turn in for the night, choose from the double bedroom on the first floor, or a double and single on the second floor. A first-floor shower room and second-floor bathroom complete the interior. The rear garden is enclosed by a lovely stone wall and has plenty of furniture for relaxing, plus a charcoal BBQ and gazebo to make the most of weather. The gentle River Arran, flowing just behind the property, provides the soundtrack to your evening.
You’ll find plenty to do in Dolgellau, where a high concentration of listed buildings gives you plenty to discover, and there are many pubs and shops within 1 mile. Enjoy short or long river walks locally as your pet trots up on ahead or, if you’re feeling ambitious, head up the Cader Idris peak (7.5 miles) to be rewarded with spectacular views. If the sea air is calling, head to Barmouth or Fairbourne (both 9 miles) for fish and chips and zoomies on the sand.
