This traditional dog-friendly home is located 10 miles over the Scottish-English border in Duns, a small market down on the edge of the Lammermuir Hills. Duns is an ideal spot for a holiday with your pets, with the nearby Duns Castle Nature Reserve encompassing woodland, open grassland and a lake that’s ripe for exploration. With two bedrooms, the cottage is perfect for a small family or two couples, with two four-legged friends welcome.
Dating back to 1760, this converted stable has a quaint and homely appearance, and benefits from a small garden where pets and children can enjoy the fresh Scottish air. The building is set slightly away from the owner’s residence, across a courtyard. After busy fresh-air days, it’s a treat to relax with your pets in the colourful lounge, which features quirky artwork on the walls. Enjoy an episode of your favourite series on the Smart TV or challenge fellow guests to a board game to while away the evening. The adjacent dining area is wonderful for family meals, and there’s also a second, smaller, dining table in the country-style kitchen. From the lounge, French doors open to a lovely patio where you can bask in the sun with your four-legged friend before retiring to the ground-floor double bedroom, or first-floor twin room.
The town of Duns is a treasure trove of quirky shops, eateries and welcoming pubs you can discover with your pets. Nearby, take your furry friends for leisurely walks along the River Tweed (10 miles), or visit a historic site such as Paxton House and Norham Castle (11 miles) where it’s fine to take dogs on leads. Keen for a day by the sea? Eyemouth and St Abbs (both 14.5 miles) both have lovely dog-friendly beaches for runarounds and frolics.
