Escape the humdrum of everyday life in this peaceful Lakeland bolthole, on the outskirts of Ennerdale Bridge. Sleeping two guests and one hairy hound, it makes the perfect romantic retreat, with idyllic walks from your front door. Ennerdale Water – one of the most remote of all the Lake District lakes – is just 2 miles away, and you are also close to the woof-friendly beaches of the Cumbrian coast (7 miles).
The rural hideaway – which adjoins the owner’s farmhouse – has a country-cottage feel, with exposed woodwork and pretty, soft furnishings. Unwind in the lounge/diner after a long day, watching the Smart TV with the hound curled at your feet. Just off the lounge is a handy shower room which can be accessed directly from outside – ideal after a muddy dog walk. A step from the lounge leads to the cute kitchen which has been carefully designed to include everything you need to rustle up tasty meals for two. The king-size bedroom is upstairs and has a striking beamed ceiling and a stylish en-suite shower room. Outside, you are welcome to use the owner’s extensive garden, which features a patio for al fresco dining and a large lawn where your canine buddy can play. You are also free to explore the owner’s surrounding farmland.
You’ll have plenty of choices when it comes to dog walks in and around Ennerdale Bridge. Wainwright’s famous Coast to Coast Walk passes through the village, and there are endless woodland trails through the surrounding forests. Nearby fells include Green Gable and High Crag, which form part of the Ennerdale Horseshoe walking route. For a day at the beach, head to the sandy shores of St Bees Beach (7 miles), which welcomes four-pawed visitors all year.
