I would thoroughly recommend this property. It was cosy and charming, with a lovely garden. The church opposite is a little gem - both Thomas Hardy's parents and grandparents were married there.

The cottage and garden are delightful. I fell in love immediately. Very well equipped. In a very quiet place, with limited traffic. Had we known the garden was not secure we would not have booked. Our dogs got out several times, thankfully the road is very quiet. There is nothing in the cottage description to say the fences/hedges are not secure. WRead moree were constantly on tenterhooks making sure they had not got out. Garden is not fully secured, and we were constantly worried about our dogs. Hide

Supply Bleach, dishwasher tabs, dishwasher salt, rinse aid, hoover bags, washing powder. It would cost 12 max and we would have had a stress free holiday. Instead we had to clean the carpet of dense dog hair. We also had to clean all cutlery and pans as they havent been cleaned in dishwasher properly. The barbecue was filthy and full of ash along wRead moreith the bins overflowing. A careful cleaning contractor would do this. Lovely property shame we spent too much of our holiday cleaning. Hide

Sterndale Cottage is picture postcard pretty in a quiet, lovely Dorset village, with a Thomas Hardy connection. The stairs inside are steep and the beams very low, so low I walked right into one (and Im only 56!), so you have to be aware of the varying ceiling heights at all times. The garden was lovely, especially in good weather, with a cheery blRead moreue table big enough for a large family. The stone paving, however, was very uneven and hazardous for the very old or very young. Hide

Such a lovely cottage. Felt cosy and safe. Comfy beds and such a fab garden. The garden should be shown off more on the website. We had a great time playing badminton on the grass.

The house is located in a quiet village. It is a perfect location for trips to Dorset, Sommerset, ... for a mixure of nature and historic experineces. At the back of the house there is a well-maintained large garden. The long history of the house can be found in several details all over. To stay in house only is not a problem because of four bedrooRead morems, a nice living room and a well equiped kitchen. We (family of four) enjoyed our stay very much and recommend the cottage to families. Hide

We had a fabulous week at Sterndale Cottage. The cottage itself was beautiful, we particularly loved the garden (we were very lucky with the weather and sat outside on several evenings). Everything was very cosy and well looked after inside. The area is perfect as a base for exploring Dorset - the coast only about 40 minutes away. We went for some Read morelovely local walks with the dogs. The village of Melbury Osmund is very peaceful and picturesque. Hide
