Have a magical getaway with your family and dogs in this fairy-tale cottage. You’ll be staying in a characterful period property in the market town of Broughton-in-Furness, Cumbria – surrounded by stone circles, abandoned castles and local legends.
As you walk into the listed home, you’ll see a gorgeous lounge/diner, full of books, decorated with quirky artwork, covered with exposed beams, and complete with a wood burner and wooden furniture. It’s a lovely spot to spend the evening playing games, trying something creative or reading. The dining area leads to the kitchen through an archway, and you’ll find everything you need for delicious meals, plus an Aga for a fun extra. Head up the cottage-style stairs to see the bedrooms: a single and two doubles with natural shades to accentuate the wooden decor. Finally, you’ll see a shower room with a WC. The cottage has a large back garden, enclosed by a stone wall so your dogs can sniff around whilst you relax on the patio furniture.
You’ll be in Broughton, a tiny town with a few shops for essentials. When everyone’s got their shoes/collars on, take a trip to Swinside Stone Circle (4 miles) or Giants Grave Stones (8 miles) for some ancient history and folklore. These are 0.5 miles from Silecroft Beach, a rugged and gorgeous spot with no restrictions for dogs. It’s popular with local equestrians, so keep an eye out for horses splashing around in the waves. Finish your holiday with a day trip to Wray Castle, which welcomes dogs on the grounds and in the lake. There are activities and a cafe which are well worth trying.
