Set in the heart of book-lovers’ Hay-on-Wye, this charming cottage could be a romantic retreat or a fabulous family getaway, and is also close to walks for happy times with your hound. Thoughtfully equipped with everything you need for a relaxing break, it boasts a wood burner for winter nights and an enclosed garden for dining al fresco.
Step straight into the charming, open-plan living space, with a wooden floor, exposed beams and carefully chosen artworks on the walls. A wood burner is set into a central inglenook, with comfortable seating gathered around, and there’s also a dining table for four and a Smart TV. The kitchen area is a lovely space in which to prepare meals while remaining sociable with the rest of your group. Another lovely feature is the separate snug, a cosy room with plenty of books and board games, perfect for an evening of competitive fun or quiet reading. There’s also a utility area with laundry facilities, while upstairs you’ll find two sweet bedrooms, a king-size and a twin, sharing a spacious bathroom with a shower over the bath. Access to the garden is via a set of steps where the narrow pathway runs along the edge of the neighbours garden area and into the small, open-aspect garden with furniture on a decked area - a lovely place for a meal or drink while your pup sniffs around and chases his tail.
In popular Hay-on-Wye you’ll find a variety of places to eat and drink, independent shops and, of course, a plethora of venues selling books both old and new. Dogs on leads are welcome on the ground floor and in the grounds and cafe of 12th century Hay Castle, or you could take Fido for a spot of doggie paddling at the Warren, a riverside ‘beach’ just 0.5 miles from the cottage. Venture further to walk the Offa’s Dyke Path and the Black Mountains.
