Relax in comfort with your favourite four-legged friend when you stay at this delightful hideaway in Alnwick. Sleeping just two guests, the one-bedroom, pup-friendly bolthole makes a perfect base for couples eager to explore Northumberland with a canine companion by their side. Take your pal for riverside and coastal walks and while away hours at a time on beaches where dogs can run free.

Wander through the leafy grounds in which this cottage is set then head inside. Dry damp paws, hang dog leads and leave your walking gear in the cloakroom before heading into the lounge, which is one step down. Let your weary waggy-tailed friend stretch out on the rug while you switch the TV on. Rustle up tasty dishes for both humans and hounds in the kitchen/diner, with a table where you and your partner can sit down to a romantic meal for two. Bed your cheerful chum down for the night in here too then take a step up and make your way through to the double bedroom, which has an en-suite shower room. Take your furry friend off for a walk on his lead through the attractive, shared grounds before breakfast. Sit out at the table in the sunshine to enjoy morning coffee while he waits patiently for the day’s adventures to begin.

Pack a picnic and a few dog treats and venture 5.5 miles to the picturesque beach at Longhoughton. This is wide and open at low tide and has plenty of space for your cheerful chum to run about and play games in the waves. Pick up the coast path here too and stride out in either direction to stretch furry legs. Visit the National Trust’s Dunstanburgh Castle, 7.5 miles away, where four-pawed companions are welcome to explore the grounds with you.

Lower Lodge is well equipped and located in a quite corner but all local amenities are very accessible.

Clean and well equipped but decor and furnishings are dated. The double bed is not comfortable, with a soft and saggy mattress. The shower is wonderfully powerful but it is not easy to control the temperature and there is no safety stop; take care not to scald yourself. The property is dark, damp and dingy even on a sunny day due to the excess of fRead moreoliage surrounding the windows and to the front. The entrance to the driveway is narrow and visibility up the road on exiting is limited. Hide

Some guests will say the Lodge is outdated whilst others will say it's charming, but that's all down to personal preference. A couple of things need a tweak to improve the overall experience - the shower control is very sensitive & care is needed when adjusting the flow / temperature; the loo seat got wet when flushing, lid up or down, so needed anRead moreti-bac spraying. Sometimes when we flushed the toilet, there was a bubbling up of water into the shower outlet. The shower was hard to work, you get scalded very quickly. The owners were very pleasant, but I'm afraid to say the whole house definitely needs updating which would definitely be a big advantage for anyone wanting to explore Alnwick. No offence to the owRead moreners, they were lovely people. Hide

The property needs updating, in my opinion. It's in a good location but needs more information about recycling

Long Easter weekend getaway. Great little cottage. Ideal for 2 and a dog. Loved the welcome pack, the dog was so impressed with his treat bag too. Ideally situated to walk into Alnwick and we walked from the cottage to Alnmouth. Great pub up the road too. Owner was very friendly and welcoming and told us where to see the best sunset.
