This charming cottage, situated in the tranquil village of Patterdale, is the perfect Lake District hideaway for small families or couples and their faithful friends. Sleeping three across two cosy bedrooms and with space for up to two pups, it won’t be long before you’re feeling refreshed and ready to head out on walkies in the local area. Leave the car at the foot of Helvellyn (1 mile) and walk the many trails, or pay a visit to Aira Force Waterfall (4 miles) where the National Trust leaves water bowls around for thirsty pups throughout the site.
The property, which sits at the foot of Kirkstone Pass, has a cosy and welcoming feel. The kitchen has everything you need to cook up a storm, while wooden interiors and a wood burner in the lounge beckon you to snuggle up on the sofa, the pups curled up by the hearth. The dining table is a wonderful spot to enjoy breakfast at, offering fantastic fell views through the large patio doors. At bedtime, head to one of the peaceful bedrooms; relaxing blue tones will lull you to sleep so you wake up raring to go for tomorrow’s adventure.
Hop aboard one of the Ullswater Steamers (1 mile) and take a cruise along Ullswater Lake; stop off at Pooley Bridge at the top of the lake (9.5 miles by car) for a bite to eat in one of the dog-friendly pubs. Lowther Castle and Gardens (14 miles) is perfect for a stroll through the grounds, and kids will love the adventure playground – although your pups will have to sit this one out! Head to Keswick (17 miles) for the pencil museum or to take the 6-mile Keswick to Threlkeld Railway Trail that weaves its way over the River Greta.
