Located on the outskirts of Mickleton and overlooking Grassholme Reservoir, this comfortable, two-bedroom stone-built cottage is a welcoming retreat for a dog-friendly getaway. It’s a pretty, rural bolthole for couples or a small family looking for tranquillity and long walks straight from the door with two waggy-tailed friends.
Inside, the rooms are all located on one level with simple, fresh tones throughout. After a long day of exploring, kick off your walking boots at the door and relax on the lounge sofa with a drink in hand while your hound rests at your feet. The lounge is cosy and swathed in natural light and is the perfect spot for catching up on some holiday reading or simply contemplating the stunning views. The lounge overlooks a neat dining table with seating for four people, while a separate kitchen can be used for preparing meals and dishing up dinner for Fido. When it’s time for bed, elegant whitewashed walls sweep through to the double and twin bedroom, and with nothing here to disturb you, you’ll soon drift off to sleep. In the morning, step outside and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. While Fido sniffs out new scents in the shrubs, you can sit at the patio table and gaze at the countryside views and reservoir water.
Grassholme Reservoir is right on your doorstep and is a lovely spot for a morning walk. Clip on a lead and enjoy spotting osprey, hares, and sheep as you walk along the water’s edge. Alternatively, pick up the Pennine Way and take your pup for an energetic 7-mile hike to High Force Waterfall. Your hound will love exploring the ancient Teesdale woodlands on the way. Further afield, amble around the medieval ruins at Barnard Castle (10 miles) then stop in the market town for a bite to eat at one of the dog-friendly pubs or restaurants.
