As it’s not a proper holiday without your faithful, four-legged friend, bring them with you and your significant other to holiday in style at this luxury cottage retreat in the Peak District. Drink in the stunning views of the rolling countryside or stride out to explore on foot with your best human and best furry buddy. This three-storey cottage has plenty of room with its spacious bedroom and no less than two lounge areas – one in the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner complete with a TV, and another more suited to quiet time.
You’ll enter via the ground-floor lounge, so it’s a good idea to keep dog towels to hand in case of mucky paws, although the practical and attractive wood floors help. This is a versatile space with an ornamental fireplace and sofa seating. Upstairs, the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner is welcoming, complete with a wood burner for cosy evenings. The modern kitchen area is well-equipped and has a table seating four for holiday feasts. Up again is the generous king-size bedroom with a calming feel and a seat near the window for taking advantage of the cracking views. Outside space comprises a lovely, enclosed garden with seating and gated doggy exercise area on the bank, which is located across the road.
For non-self-catering days, the local pub is dog friendly and within 300 metres – you can’t get more convenient than that! Head out exploring Matlock (within 1.5 miles). A bustling town, it’s got plenty of dining and shopping options and, reassuringly, there’s a vet here too. Equally, you can enjoy the peace and quiet walking along the River Derwent towards Matlock Bath. Get a different perspective on the cable car from Matlock Bath to the Heights of Abraham with its trails and caverns to explore. And, yes, dogs on leads can go too!
