Enjoy a break with your family, friends and four-legged companion in beautiful surroundings near Painscastle. Situated 5.5 miles from the picturesque Brecon Beacons National Park, and renowned Hay-on-Wye, this handsome converted barn sits on a working barn, capturing valley views and providing a superb base for eight guests. With four bedrooms, the dog-friendly retreat enjoys private gardens and access to footpaths and trails to follow.
Open the doors to the barn, leaving your chum’s dog lead in the lobby before following him through to the kitchen/diner, with its farmhouse table. Find everything you need in here to prepare meals for your group, then feed your happy hound while it cooks. Dine together at the table while the wood burner crackles gently in the background. Also at this level, towards the back of the retreat and a few steps down, is a king-size bedroom, with zip-and-link beds that can be arranged as twins if discussed in advance and an en-suite bathroom. There is also a double bedroom and a family shower room on the ground floor. Take your chum up to the first floor with you to rest his weary paws in the lounge, where you can watch TV or take a couple of stairs up to a snug. A family bathroom, double bedroom and twin room are also up here. Watch your furry friend’s ears prick up when you suggest a woodland walk before breakfast. Have coffee out in the sunshine afterwards and light the BBQ later at dinner time. There is parking for three cars.
Make some sandwiches, grab a few dog treats, and set off on a 2.5-mile walk to reach the Begwyns, an area of spectacular National Trust-owned land that you and your delighted dog will adore. Strike out along the famous Offa’s Dyke Path from Hay-on-Wye.
