Walk beside the River Usk and strike out across the Brecon Beacons National Park with your delighted dog when you stay at this Crickhowell hideaway. Sleeping four guests, the two-bedroom retreat sits beside the stone bridge that acts as the gateway to the attractive town and also enjoys views out across the river and picturesque countryside. From here, plan long walks to set tails wagging then return to dine out in one of the town’s friendly Welsh pubs that is pleased to welcome four-legged customers.
Let yourselves into this welcoming house to find it has a reverse-design. Call your pup to enter with you, leave your wellies or walking boots and his dog lead inside, then find you have a super-king-size bedroom, with zip-and-link beds that can also be arranged as twins if discussed in advance, plus a twin room at ground-floor level. There is also a family bathroom here. Head on up the stairs to emerge with your furry friend in a light-filled, open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, which he can nose about while you lay a fire in the wood burner and set about serving him some of the fresh Welsh cuts you have bought in the town. Fix yourselves some dinner too, enjoy it at the table, then settle down to watch the Smart TV. There is no outside space at this holiday home, but your canine companion will be spoiled for choice when it comes to places to walk. There is one off-road parking space for guests on the other side of the bridge.
Head off on long hikes up into the beautiful Black Mountains from this Brecon Beacons bolthole. Follow a 6-mile route along the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal from the town to Llangynidr, watching the comings and goings of the boats on the water as you go.
