  • Explore the abundance of footpaths from the doorstep through the beautiful South Downs National Park
Property code: 89657

Spend some quality time with family, friends plus your canine chum in the charming back garden or sunny conservatory of this three-bed holiday home, just relaxing into your stay and making magic memories. It’s set in a tranquil part of the Sussex village of Alfriston overlooking the village green but, being situated within the South Downs National Park, the house also has access to lots of great walking paths – heaven for outdoorsy types and dogs alike!

Keep your doggy towels in the handy porch for wiping potentially mucky paws as you enter this impressive house. The bright and airy lounge has plenty of comfortable seating for watching TV, reading or merely thinking about your holiday itinerary. Next door is a more open-plan dining area, complete with a cosy wood burner and a table easily seating six for those communal holiday feasts knocked up by the chef of the day in the smart fitted kitchen with all mod cons. This leads into the conservatory extension with another table for six. Two doubles and one twin bedroom are spacious and individually decorated in calming tones with pops of colour and antique furnishings. The fully enclosed rear garden has deluxe outdoor furniture on the patio, as well as extensive lawns and a BBQ – perfect for summer nights.

The South Downs offer miles of walking trails so why not lead the way to adventure. Or head to the village shops, pubs and tearooms (within 500 metres). The National Trust’s Alfriston Clergy House is also in the village but dogs aren’t permitted, so will have to miss out on that one. Or visit Seaford (4.5 miles) with its long shingle beach, large parts of which are dog friendly – but do check before you let your canine chum go mutts off the lead!

The cottage was well presented, had all homely comforts and was in an excellent position within an extremely beautiful village. We were worried about flooding leading up to travel but had nothing to worry about as it was well away from any flooding areas. We absolutely fell in love with the cottage and village.

The cottage is in a great location, 5 minutes walk from village centre and facing the recreation ground. The garden is attractive and safe for dogs Furnishings are of good quality and comfortable. It is well-equipped throughout. There is a good tv in the lounge. The conservatory is a bonus. All in all, a very enjoyable family weekend stay.

Overall a comfortable and well equipped cottage. Alfriston is a lovely but busy village and The Shieling is located a little way from the high street so is quieter but with easy reach to the village amenities.

One of the best holiday cottages we have stayed at. Spacious, cosy, warm, well equiped and well situated. We really didn't want to go home. Alfriston is a joy. We ate at the George several times and the staff, food and ambience were great. The village shop/deli had a wide choice of delicious goodies and, again, the staff were lovely. A beautiful house in an excellent location, especially for walking on the downs. Very comfortable and well equipped on the whole. Short of some basics in the kitchen. ( jay cloths, washing up brush, kitchen roll and washing machine tablets) Impossible to eat in the conservatory in the hot weather and the large sunshade in the shed was too heavy forRead more its base. The other dining room was nice and cool. The childrens park across the road was excellent and the fields were good for the children. Hide

A wonderful house in a wonderful location, but sadly the cleaning of the house was rather a let down. This wouldn't put me off staying again, I just hope the cleaning of the house will be much improved.

A well situated property within easy walking distance of the village. Excellent outlook to both front and rear. The house had various seating areas so enabling our party to enjoy various activities without disturbing each other. The bathroom shower was a disappointment and not used. With the cylinder cupboard immediately the other side of the wall Read moreit was a pity the shower was not plumbed into the domestic hw system. The ground floor basin waste was virtually blocked. We really have enjoyed our stay in this welcoming, beautiful house, which is very tastefully and comfortably furnished, only a short walk to Alfriston's nice shops and pubs. There is plenty to explore in this beautiful area of South East England and we are sure, we will come back.
