  • An idyllic country retreat which lends itself to a romantic getaway
  • Enjoy meandering around the surrounding parkland and woodland
  • Spend wonderful evenings dining alfresco next to the lake
Property code: 88656

Whisk your other half (and pampered pooch, of course!) to this romantic retreat set by a lake in the grounds of Kirby Fleetham Hall in North Yorkshire. Its symmetrical stone facade is wonderful to look at with four large semi-circular windows letting in light to the living accommodation and the arched passage right through the middle of the building. It’s certainly unique. And you can lead the way to adventure with your faithful hound by exploring the beautifully landscaped gardens, lake and woodland of the estate or just dine alfresco outside the property by the lake, with your canine chum enjoying a snooze on the grass.

A lot of thought has gone into the renovation of this property – retaining lots of character and original features, while also making it a supremely contemporary and comfortable space, decorated in various muted colours. Leave your wet or muddy garments and dog towels in the spacious entrance and then upstairs, you’ll find the open-plan living/dining/kitchen area which is a welcoming space in your quirky home from home. Sink into the comfortable sofas and drink in the splendid views of the landscaped gardens and lake through the semi-circular windows or simply admire the rustic beamed ceiling. Get creative in the modern kitchen or enjoy a drink at the breakfast bar before dining at your very own table for two whilst the dogs laze underneath. The beautiful king-size bedroom is downstairs, as is the adjoining classic-style bathroom, complete with roll-top bath for a luxurious holiday soak. Dogs will have to make do with the lake when it comes time for a splash about!

In addition to the fantastic grounds to explore, there are paddocks and stables for visitors who are keen on all things equestrian but please be mindful if your dog isn’t familiar with horses. If you’re looking for a mooch about town, Northallerton is 9.5 miles away with lots of shops and cafes.

  • 1 bedroom - super-king-size
  • 1 shower room with shower and WC
  • Electric oven and hob, fridge, dishwasher, microwave and coffee machine
  • Smart TV in the lounge
  • Access to parkland grounds and woodland
  • Off-road parking for 1 car
  • Pub 1.5 miles, shops 4.5. miles
  • Arrival: 16:00 onwards
  • Departure: before 10:00, unless otherwise stated in your arrival details
  • 1 dog allowed. Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week
  • There is an Accidental Damage Deposit of £150 when booking at this property, however this may be waived for £20. We’ll provide more details about this when booking your holiday.

The mattress was sadly terrible, hence 1 star for comfort. No support, very poor quality. My husband slept on the sofa! On our last day we were given another mattress, but a smaller size. I hope that the owner has since replaced the mattress following my ongoing complaints to owner and agent. Also there was not enough crockery. However, the locatioRead moren is good, the loft was warm, staff were nice. A shame the mattress totally impacted the quality of our holiday. A good bed should be fundamental! Hide

Lovely cottage, very comfortable. Enjoyed watching lots of wildlife around the lake, including the regular kingfisher. The peaceful evenings were only broken by the owl hooting. Lovely to sit by the lake in the sun drinking wine, eating tapas, and strolling around the grounds. The pub in the village served a delicious Sunday lunch, catering very weRead morell for my dietary requirements of gluten and dairy free. Though care needed if walking there, on a single track road with blind bends. Hide

Farrier's Loft is in a delightfully quiet area and having tea/prosecco on the beautiful lawn area is great. You're guaranteed a good night's sleep in a very comfy bed. Take your own salt, pepper and oil, as none is provided - take your own bread knife too. It's very easy to get to Richmond, Northallerton and Durham and beyond. Idyllic location with the opportunity to walk around the grounds. The Farriers Loft had everything you need and appreciated the Prosecco on arrival and the basics. Comfortable bed with lovely view of the ancient bridge from the bedroom. Spacious lounge and well equipped kitchen. Even in January with unpredictable weather we found plenty to do. The cottage is in a unique location, sharing the building is not a problem as there is an arch between the two loft spaces so privacy is not an issue. We were very fortunate to have a view of the stone garden bridge extensive lawns and the calming lake. Being organic we were able to use the freezer for our food.

The Farriers Loft is located at the bottom of Fleetham Hall driveway and has been converted well. Tastefully decorated with comfortable furnishings and good equipment. Pleasant grounds with lots of wildlife, including the resident Labrador now and then. Kirkby Fleetham is well located to explore the wider area of Yorkshire. The main hall has large Read moregrounds which were regularly maintained during our stay, which can interrupt the privacy at times. An outside table would be beneficial. Hide
