This Grade II-listed cottage is in the ancient market town of Crewkerne, just 15 miles from the Jurassic Coast. The property is full of period charm and sleeps three guests and two hairy companions, making it a perfect romantic retreat or base for a small family. The town is extremely dog friendly, with many eateries welcoming four-pawed visitors. You’ll have an excellent choice of beaches within 20 miles, as well as National Trust properties Barrington Court and Montacute House, where you are welcome to enjoy the garden and parkland with your pooch.
The cottage dates back to the early 1800s and is bursting with character and original features. After a busy day, snuggle up by the wood burner effect electric fire, with a glass of wine, and your favourite programme on the Smart TV. The property has underfloor heating, so your canine chums will find plenty of cosy spots to curl up, too. Step down into the bright kitchen, where you can rustle up tasty meals and dine together by the window. There is also a utility room, which is a good place for the hounds to set up camp. Cottage-style stairs lead to the bedrooms, along with the bathroom. There is no outdoor space with this property. However, there is a large recreational ground just 300 metres away, where Rover and Fido can stretch their legs.
For a day at the seaside, head to Lyme Regis (16 miles), where you’ll have three woof-welcoming beaches to choose from, as well as many tea rooms and pubs that happily allow canine visitors. There is a lovely coastal walk from here, to nearby Charmouth, where you can spend a relaxed afternoon hunting fossils and paddling on the shoreline. Crewkerne itself is also well worth exploring, with its plethora of historic buildings and a fascinating heritage trail and blue plaque walk.
