This stylish former barn is family and dog friendly, with far-reaching views and wide open spaces not to mention the wood burner to relax in front of after a long day. A great choice for a relaxing holiday.
This stylish barn conversion, sleeping four guests plus one family pet, has far-reaching views across beautiful countryside and is located on a working organic farm, close to the pretty village of Okeford Fitzpaine. The semi-detached property, one of a pair of converted barns, has a large, open field to the rear, ideal for ball games or doggy romps. A private all-weather sports barn is close by, and the glorious North Dorset landscape is on the doorstep, with a wealth of footpaths for you and your canine friend to discover.
The timber-clad barn is reached via an unmade lane and shared drive. Inside, the light and airy open-plan lounge, diner and kitchen area has large glass sliding doors with wonderful country vistas. Sumptuous sofas in jewel shades are an invitation to curl up in front of the wood burner while Hector or Poppy snoozes on their special blanket. There’s a smart contemporary kitchen and stylish walk-in shower room and WC. Upstairs are another WC and two beautifully furnished bedrooms: a king-size with a balcony window and gorgeous scenic view, and a twin bedroom set within the eaves. While this partly lowers some areas of head height, it adds to its cosy cottage charm.
Okeford Fitzpaine (0.5 miles) is within a short stroll and has a shop and dog-friendly pub. Visit the market town of Sturminster Newton (3 miles) to see a historic working water mill in a lovely riverside setting, and the fascinating local museum. Your faithful hound will enjoy the easy walking trail that runs from Sturminster along the route of an old railway line through unspoiled countryside. Scale two spectacular Iron Age hillforts, Hod Hill and Hambledon Hill (both 4.5 miles), with magnificent views from the summit. Further afield, see Georgian Blandford Forum (7 miles) and the famous Gold Hill in Shaftesbury (9 miles).
