Cosy retreat in central Ambleside, ideal for couples, friends, or small families. The perfect base to explore the Lakes and just a stone’s throw from local shops, cafes, bars, and restaurants.
Overflowing with character, this quaint stone cottage sits in a pretty complex of properties to the rear of a large historic house. Escape with your loved ones to this peaceful retreat in the heart of the bustling town of Ambleside. Sleeping four people over two bedrooms and welcoming one canine companion, it’s the ideal accommodation option for small families or groups of friends who want to spend their days walking their pup at Lake Windermere, and their evenings relaxing in one of the town’s cosy, dog-friendly pubs.
Accessed via steps at the rear of the complex’s historic house, this homely cottage is spread across one floor and enjoys views across the fells. Step inside and you’ll find a galley-style kitchen where you can get busy cooking up a feast for your companions. Gather everyone together to eat at the table in the sun-filled lounge/diner – a truly lovely room with original beams and views towards Latterbrow and the Fairfield Horseshoe. You may even be lucky enough to spot deer while you eat. After dinner, put your feet up in front of the TV for the evening, or step outside onto the small private patio, pour yourself a glass of something cool and crisp, and watch the stars come out. When it’s time for bed, you’ll find a bright and cheerful double bedroom with fell views, and a cosy double with original beams.
Take your pup for a historic stroll at Ambleside Roman Fort (1 mile), the remains of a 2nd-century Roman garrison on the shores of Lake Windermere. Alternatively, set sail on a Windermere Lake Cruise with your trusty pup by your side. Cruises depart from Ambleside (0.5 miles) and take you to Bowness, Brockhole or Lakeside. Or take a hike to Stock Ghyll Force (1 mile), a spectacular 70-foot-tall waterfall.
