Nestled in a tranquil setting with woodland walks on your doorstep, this attractive lodge is an ideal base for families in southern Snowdonia overlooking the Dyfi Estuary.
It’s 3 miles from the coastal town of Aberdovey, where you’ll find plenty of dog-friendly pubs, cafés and restaurants along with an unspoilt sandy beach that’s excellent for crabbing, sandcastle building, sailing and canoeing. While there are some dog restrictions in summer, large sections of this sandy expanse are pet-friendly all year round. The lodge, located on ancient woodland that was once the Welsh Celtic Rainforest, offers a serene retreat for up to six human guests and three dogs.
After removing your walking boots and brushing off muddy paws in the porch, enter the spacious hallway then step into the lovely and bridge kitchen, which is styled in a country cottage manner with wooden work surfaces, cream units and colourful tiles. A handy breakfast bar sets you up for casual breakfasts and snacks. In the combined lounge/diner features full-length wooden-framed doors offering lovely views. Relax after busy days out watching the Smart TV (with Netflix) or playing board games with fellow guests, all warmed by a wood burner. Outside, your dogs can sunbathe on the paved terrace while the children play in the summerhouse and the adults sip wine.
From your front door, there’s a lovely trail leading to Llyn Barfog (the Bearded Lake), accessible without needing the car. At Aberdovey, you can join the Wales Coast Path for doggie-pleasing walks through gorgeous scenery – keep your eyes out for the bottlenose dolphins that swim in these waters. The accommodation is also 7.5 miles from the eco-conscious and vibrant market town of Machynlleth, where you can absorb the friendly atmosphere and visit the Centre for Alternative Technology (9.5 miles), which has a water-balanced railway you can ride on. History enthusiasts will appreciate a trip to Corris (8 miles), a town rich in mining heritage, featuring old workings and a popular craft centre.
