Set on a quiet lane in a pretty village overlooking open fields, an ideal base for walking and cycling, Alfred Wainwright described the area as one of the pleasantest of the Lakeland Valleys: a quiet, unspoilt, beautiful location.
Located in the pretty village of High Lorton, in the Lake District National Park, this charming two-bedroom property is a wonderful place to call home for a while. It’s the perfect holiday cottage for a couple or small family looking for long walks with their dog across scenic surrounding hills and fields.
An external stone staircase leads up to the front door of this end-of-terrace cottage. Inside, the ground floor is wonderfully comfortable and relaxed. Neutral tones and beautiful sash windows create a soothing atmosphere and after a day out exploring, you’ll want to sink into the lounge sofa with a drink in hand and your four-legged friend at your feet. On colder evenings, light the wood burner and snuggle up with a film on the TV. A pinewood table overlooks the lounge and is perfect for sociable meals, or for more casual dining, eat at the neat table in the kitchen. On the first floor, there are two light and airy bedrooms with windows that invite you to stop and stare at the green fields. There’s also a good-sized family bathroom on this floor. Back on ground level, head outside and you’ll find a snug/games room under the house, accessed via an external entrance. Older children will love this separate space and can while away the hours playing table football. Finally, a shared courtyard is a great spot for Fido to have a little potter while you enjoy a morning coffee.
On sunny days, you and your furry friend can splash in the Whitbeck that flows just outside the cottage or for a walk in nature, enjoy direct access to the path that runs from the village out towards High Swinside. Other walking routes include the 5-mile path to Crummock Water and the 7-mile hike to Scale Force Waterfall. For mountain biking trails, head 2 miles to Whinlatter Forest.
