Nestled in the picturesque Duddon Valley, this beautifully renovated cottage is the perfect rural escape. Providing ample accommodation for eight people and welcoming up to three playful pups, this characterful cottage is ideal for families and groups of friends that love the great outdoors. After thrilling days scrambling over fells, wandering around lakes and exploring quaint villages, return here for relaxing afternoons in the garden and sociable evenings in the cosy lounge.

Dating back to the 1700s, this property has been given a new leash of life with a contemporary makeover that embraces its original charm and character. Wash off muddy paws at the handy outdoor tap before stepping into this warm and homely abode. Set beneath a heavy beamed ceiling – rumoured to contain timbers from the Spanish Armada – the lounge is a welcoming haven after a day on the fells. Snuggle on the plush sofas while your worn-out pups snooze it off in front of the open fire, then head next door to rustle up tasty treats for all in the spacious and beautifully equipped kitchen. Feast together around the dining table or make the most of warm weather to dine alfresco, while your pups play in the garden and explore the property’s private orchard. A sunny conservatory offers a quiet spot to enjoy a cuppa or curl up with your current read. When it’s time for bed, head upstairs to get cosy under the covers. There’s a bunkroom for adults or children on the half landing, and three further bedrooms on the first floor with zip-and-link beds that can be arranged to accommodate your group. Three bathrooms plus a separate WC allow everybody to refresh with ease.

The surrounding area offers a wealth of adventures. Leave the car at home and grab a ball for the pups as you set off to hike Devoke Water, Harter Fell and Dunnerdale Forest (all within 6 miles). Head to Coniston Water (14 miles), where water dogs can join you on the Coniston Launch to cruise the lake, hopping on and off at leisure. Alternatively pop to Dalegarth to catch the La’al Ratty steam train to the coastal village of Ravenglass (12.5 miles), home to one of the best dog-friendly beaches in the Lake District.

  • 4 bedrooms - 2 king-size zip-and-links (can be made up as twin bedrooms upon request, single beds are small 2ft 6”) , 1 twin (can be put together to make a super-king-size upon request), 1 bunk bed room can be made up on request (please let us know if you would like these beds made up at the time of booking)
  • 3 bathrooms (2 with underfloor heating) - 1 family bathroom with roll-top bath, separate shower and WC. 2 en-suite shower rooms with WCs, 1 separate WC
  • Fridge/freezer, an integrated dishwasher, double oven, microwave, Nespresso coffee machine and induction hob
  • Utility area with washing machine and space with racks for storing bikes
  • Open fire (initial supply for the first fire)

  • Please note that there is a small loft conversion in the barn next to this property, which the owners sometimes use if they come to do garden or cottage maintenance between bookings. It is separate to the cottage and they will ensure they don't disturb your stay
  • Pub serving food all day every day within 1 mile
  • No Stag or Hen Parties
  • Local shops, butchers, bakery, licensed greengrocers and pubs are within 5.5 miles

  • Please note that the bunk beds will only be made up if you request them at least a week before your arrival with the owner.

  • Dog's must be well behaved, fully house trained and not exceed 28kg in weight  (No large breed's), Guests are politely asked to keep the dogs downstairs

  • Electric vehicle charging on site
  • This property will be decorated for Christmas
  • Arrival: 16:00 onwards
  • Departure: before 10:00, unless otherwise stated in your arrival details
  • 3 dogs allowed. Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week
  • There is an Accidental Damage Deposit of £350 when booking at this property, however this may be waived for £40. We’ll provide more details about this when booking your holiday.

Esp Hall was the perfect Christmas getaway, a beautiful cottage set amongst beautiful scenery! If a relaxing break in the serenity of the Duddon valley where you are able to do as much or as little as you like doesnt grab you then nothing will. Esp hall is well equipped, tastefully decorated and well maintained and we couldnt of asked for better. IRead more would recommend to anybody and will be returning for sure. Another extremely enjoyable stay at Esp Hall. It's a lovely, quiet idyll in its own ample grounds, deep in countryside, with a beautiful view across Duddon Valley. The house is spacious, immaculate, extensively equipped and homely. Its own raised orchard is a delightful place to linger. We have come to know this lesser-visited area of the Lakes a lRead moreot better and there are numerous favoured places we now visit. Very personable and helpful contact with the owners. We stayed at Esp Hall for a week September with our friends. It is in a very quiet location, but does have the local friendly pub a mile or so up the road (20 minute walk). The cottage is well equipped and cosy. We brought extra logs for the fire as the ones supplied were minimal, and we needed the fire as the weather was not brilliant. The main beRead moredroom with ensuite was a good size, but the smaller one was small, and not too much storage space. Overall we would definitely make another visit Hide

One of the best locations that we have stayed in, the valley is quiet which is unusual in the Lake District.

Esp Hall is in a wonderful location in the Duddon Valley. Its very peaceful, the only noise being from the stream running down to the river, the birds and the sheep/cattle. Walks for all abilities from the front door, with local routes supplied in the cottage. The accommodation is difficult to fault; high levels of cleanliness. Lovely, well equipped property in a beautiful setting but be aware that there are very narrow winding roads surrounding it, for 5-10 miles. Only 3 stars as location not appropriate for families

Esp Hall is beautiful, very comfortable and well equipped. The views are just incredible. Duddon Valley is utterly stunning and a great location for hiking, wild swimming and exploring. The owners are thoughtful and welcoming. It was very hard to leave and I am sure we will return.

Lovely, lovely Cumbrian house in a very quiet valley. Lovely stars at night with the dark skies too. We've stayed here before, but in hottest week of summer so a February visit was very different - lovely to light a fire and properly relax. Would really recommend this house, but please don't book the week we want as we'll definitely be back!
